looking at the page I posted, the estimates are more like 3600 lb/acre

Carl Lewis, Edwin Moses, and Scott Jurek would disagree with you. And so would I. I'm not "elite," but I did a 3:55 (1500), 8:28, and 14:37 meat-free, which, considering my appalling genetic non-disposition for running, I feel was pretty decent.

Here's a diet that anyone could be incorporating more of...fruits and veggies, it's common sense and what we've been told to eat since we were children.

these two facts alone should be enough to call vegan diet normal, and meat/dairy eating - extreme.

Kenya runners are almost vegan, their meat consumption is maybe 10% of average American, their dairy - somewhere around 20-40%, and comes from unprocessed milk. They also don't eat gluten, if I'm not wrong.

But remember, not every vegan diet is healthy. Lots of vegans are killing themselves with unhealthy diet.

Eat omega 3 and watch out omega 6 intake as it's usually too high - flaxseed is excellent source of omega 3, use some supplements - vitamin B12, if you are runner - taurine, choline (soy lecithing), maybe carnitine.

Almost every american lacks of vitamin D and iodine. There are good reasons to use vitamin E in very high amounts, like 3000% of RDA - but only natural vitamin E, and not only one form - use mix of natural tocopherols. There is good evidence too that high doses of vitamin C (like 2000 mg daily in 3-4 doses) greatly reduce chances of some common diseases, such as heart attack.

keep saturated fat as close to 0 as possible. Never eat any trans-fats, like margarine.

If you feel like hardcore runner, eliminate gluten from your diet, completely. Trust me, it WILL increase your ability to run.

wrong, he had all signs of gluten intolerance, he quoted them all in one interview (not remember now where it was). Once he gave up grains, his running times increased greatly - but I doubt it has anything to do with fruits.

Only fruit diet is NOT healthy, at least not as it could be. No monkey eat only fruits, they all eat large amounts of insects, sometimes strange things like flowers etc. Since body of Arnstein don't need to fight gluten now and he lost alot (and I mean ALOT) of weight, he can run faster, but soon his running times will drop significally, once his choline and methionine levels decrease and homocysteine increase due to subclinical vitamins B deficiency. Yes, it take years to develop signs of such malnutrition.

Not according to the company.... From their website:

I like Jurek a lot and I respect vegans, but I just think it's weird when people misrepresent themselves. If someone is a vegan, great. But if they eat animal products, they shouldn't call themselves a vegan. Like if I did 8 miles on an elliptical, I wouldn't say I "ran" 8 miles... I could say I worked out, but I would be misrepresenting myself if I told someone I ran 8 miles...
