Happy to see Cragg made it!!! That was going to be a real bummer because he's worked his ass off to make it back.
Nice run by Teg. Such a great tactical, smart runner.

Lagat able to sustain 55 second quarter* in the last lap of a 5k = looks strong.
Lagat able to sustain 55 second quarter* in the last lap of a 1500m but not "get up and go" in the last 100m = looks weak.
*times quoted as an example.
Different races. Remember folks, speed is relative to those around you and the race that is run. A 70 second quarter at the end of a marathon looks astronomical! On the track a 70 second quarter just means you're in a high school race.

what the hell happened to Mottram? No finish kick at all or what? Anyone watch the race and care to comment?
Agree Lagat looked great, and his 52-53 second last laps in the 1500m might just hold up well in the 5k final.

In the final, do you think Bekele will be burned out from his 13:40??
I can't wait for this final. Is anyone else out there starting to get the feeling that Teg has a real shot at gold?
No
No.
Gold? Not impossible but like 1 in 10,000 or something.

Sorry but no. He isn't going to compete with Bekele or Lagat over the final lap.
Maybe Lagat is going to challenge you-know-who, but probably not Teg. Would love to see it, but there's going to be some real smoke in the final, especially the final 600 meters.
Teg and Cragg might mix it up if both run to their potential. Could battle for third or fourth, maybe, but even that's a tall drink.

In a 13:40'sh pace, a :55 final lap doesn't prove anything for Olympic Finalist athletes. Most of the finalists will have that ability and many will have it to close faster, if needed. I mean, did we really think a :57 was par??
Mottram let the pace go slow (slowest heat) and then did not get himself into 2nd or 3rd with 300 to go (he was in 5th and being gapped) When he saw the slow pace he needed to go with 500 to go to have a chance!!!

The Qatari kicked hard at 600 to go, Mottram stayed with Lagat and Bekele and let him get a 50m lead by the bell. Then the work started and Mottram gradually dropped back down the back straight until he was nowhere near in the final 100m.
It going to one hell of a final - matching up guys with different strengths. Depending on how race works out any one 12 guys could medal. I personally hope it is fast but will probably be wrong.

Mottram is definitely supposed to be able to throw down a 56-57 with no trouble. He just sucked.

Mottram was tripped in the 1500 of the last Commonwealth Games. His poor performance today is most likely attributed to that trip, which most likely was caused by Kevin Sullivan.
The rumor is Mottram will now look to resume his junior dominance of the triathlon. Supposedly he and Webb have a pact to "blow the scene up". Stay tuned...

I'm super pumped for the final... but I don't think Teg has a shot beating Bekele on his best day and Bekele's worst, but I think it's reasonable to sneak in for a Bronze or possibly a Silver.
I'm hoping: 1. Lagat 2. Bekele 3. Teg
... but reasonably I think Bekele is going to beat Lagat and Little Bekele will get third.
at least with 2 Americans maybe we have a shot at having the event shown at a decent hour........
Like the women's 10k and women's steeple?
