bravo. I'd shake your hand if I could. You spent the time to say what I tried to say earlier. Love the "dirt on the feet" comment. If the USK's of the world would spend some time to get educated about 'being' American, and stop seeing 'true' Americans as those who born here, then they might actually appreciate their country instead of living under misplaced and misguided patriotism.
Nice to see somene who really gets it.

I would tend to agree. However, I think it would be much more effective to let threads like this one die.
Earlier today this topic had gone several hours without a post, and yet many people keep finding one more reason to revive it after all that time. That is simply giving the topic creator additional (and unwarranted) exposure).
SVC,
Can I recommend a course on sarcasm for you?

WEBB is a True American, Jeremy Wariner is a True American, Brad walker is a True American,
any chance we may add Tyson Gay, please?
or Allyson Felix?
Or are we to understand your true feelings and sentiments by selecting those 3?

Tegenkamp finishing 4th means infinitely more for American distance running than Lagat's two titles do.

Clealy showing that this is a race based view on running.
Following this logic if Mottram was running for the US he'd be cheered on far more than Lagat ever would. Because kids could "relate" to him.
The reality is that US distance running is in the dumps. The only "real" American who had ashot at medalling would have been Webb, and he failed.
And this means that African immigrants are the next hope for US distance running as far as medalling is concerned.
Deal with it. kids should be running because they enjoy the sport and want to get better. It shouldnt matter if its Lagat or Meb of Ritz or Webb who inspires them. Let them decide for themselves.
Right now its all about jealousy, envy and racism.
Lagat showed the world what it means to be American.
Agreed!
During segregationist days, the line used to be, "Would you want your daughter to marry one?"
Our new version--and I have to call it crypto-racism--is, "My kids just can't be inspired by ______________ the way they can be inspired by one of our 'own' white guys."
You know, parents, I think that all depends on how you've raised your kids.
Damn well said, SoCal Pete!
I don't know. Can you?
