What is the hardest class you ever took in college?

organic chemistry.

so many little things and different applications of molecules which only differ in one little functional group. personally i found the math classes to be much easier and more straightforward then my organic class...

Sunday school. I could never understand how people believe that b.s.

I took Diff EQ and Advanced Algebra the same semester. Got a D in Diff EQ and a B in Advanced algebra. Those are the lowest grades I've ever received.

Physical Chemistry. The professor flunked 50% of the class (including me). The 2nd time, I recorded the lectures and used his words for the exams, but still got a C-. The teacher was hard in a non-constructive way.

Bio Major: I agree with you. I also struggled much more with physics than I ever have with Organic. Everyone acted like Organic was going to be impossible, but I made an 'A' in it and I will admit that I'm not a genius. In fact, I struggle so much with physics that I have recently bought a physics for dummies book to help me in preparing for the MCAT. Alot of people going into Organic expect their natural intelligence to get them through most of the stuff. In other words, it is like trying to run a race on pure talent without adequate training. These students do not respect the difficulty of the subject and just go through the motions by trying to memorize all of the reactions the day before the test. I have seen extremely bright individuals fail this course for that reason. They are what you all the 'smart slackers.' The bottom line: Don't be a slacker. This course brutally punishes the slackers but rewards the hard workers.

...I fervently hope I'm not alone in having no idea what sheep smell like. It'd be very awkward if, one day, I'd be in conversation with some friends and the topic came up. "What, you don't know what sheep smell like? Oh man. Hey guys, check it out... guess what Ultramiler's never done?"

Come to think of it, it's probably not that hard to know what they smell like. If I'd ever been on a farm I'd probably know. Oh well.

Ever heard of a Galois group? A ring? Algebra as you know it is not at all what real mathematicians call algebra. True algebra would make you shit your pants.

So that's why I hate chemistry. Never really thought about it like that before.

You obviously took "baby" linear where you weren't dealing with invariant subspaces and Jordan canonical forms.

Yeah, but so did everyone else here who is bitching about how awful linear algebra was.

Another vote for abstract algebra. The theorems seemed so clear, logical and understandable in class, and then I'd get to the homework problems and I'd realize I didn't know how to do anything.

Introduction to Fine Arts. I went to 2 classes (mid-term + final) and didn't buy the book, so the mid-term and final were fairly challenging because they were based entirely off the book.

ok I got my BS in EE, and have to say that EM junior level course was fing hard. my prof wrote MV equations on the chalk board all day....and would say in "do follow me" in slurred thick eastern European accent. I have notes filled with equations but didn't absorb the concepts well.

I think the average on out mid terms were like 60%.

To add to it junior year I also had a class that was required for both math majors and EEs called "Complex Variables"...which got into crap like proofs and z = w(x).

Some of it I had seen in a class that got into Fourier, Laplace, Z transforms...but this class took that and smoke some serious crack. Our prof was very spacey, and sometimes would play a classical music CD during class.

I had 2 roommates also in the class (EE, math), and jot jibes from otheres that I went down on the prof to get a passing grade. I think I got a gimme C. The Final was retardedly hard.

'History of California,' because I took the class pass/no pass in my last semester of school and literally only opened the book the night before the mid-term and the final. Hardly ever made it to class either. I got a C+. Organic chemistry, immunology, genetics, calculus, diff eq., physics, and all upper division chemistry, biochemistry, and biology classes were a breeze compared to the history elective. Never got anything lower than a B.

Oops, got a C+ in California History, but a pass in a different elective that same semester (my last). Toughest semester ever, what with three total classes, two of them pass/no pass. Pretty much just ran and drank that spring.

If you\'re an engineer or in some other math related field, I\'ve found that any upper level math course is near impossible at times. Not only is the math dififcult, abstract, and kinda worthless, but you also get screwed with non-english speaking profs whereas the math majors atleast get good teachers.

For calc 3, dif-e-q, and calc=based statistics all three were horendous.

But for similar honors classes for the math guys they get a decent, english speaking teacher. It\'s a huge advantage and got me really turned off after a great upper level math high school teacher.
