In D1, don’t sleep on the girls from Long Beach Wilson. They made it to SS finals for the first time in 20 years and only missed going to state by two spots. The entire team is returning next year and are all still developing as runners. (yes, as a parent I’m biased as hell, but their potential is super exciting.)
Quoting my post from 8 months ago cause the lady Bruins just won the elite race at Dana Hills Invite, with 5 girls going sub 18 and only a 38 second 5-man gap. This was a week after placing 3rd at Cool Breeze.

Avg Mile:5:51
5 Man Gap:0:38

Their 5and 6 runners today are 800 specialists. They have the potential to improve the most. I make this statement based on some of the improvement from 800/ 1500 specialist of last year, example: Smith, Dye and Terrill to name a few.
And it was vey sad to see Sydney Rubio limp to the finish line. Hopefully it was exhaustion and not an injury.

Oh, I’m aware…my daughter is #3. 😉
I’ve had the pleasure of watching (and photographing) these girls develop as runners and as a team the last two years. 5 of the 7 will be back to run next year as well, so things may get pretty exciting.
Everyone knows the Wilson girls from their recent CIF titles, but it’s nice to see the XC girls making a statement as well. Last season was the first time in 21 years that they made to the SS finals. They are extremely motivated to make it to state this year….and hold their own.
Somebody might want to pay attention to the D3 St Francis girls in SJS. They’ve only had two races but they seem to be fast and deep with a young squad.

At Lowell Invitational today Sophomore Ava Padilla of Monte Vista, NCS, finished 5th. As a freshman this past spring she ran 2:09/4:54.
You add endurance to a runner with speed and good results will occur.
This is the Sac-Joaquin top 20 women. I don't understand how Fernandez of Riverbank and Arriaza of Patterson are not on this list, They didn't graduate and their schools are in the Sac-Joaquin Section. They are top 20 runners in this section. Someone didn't do their homework.

I was at the race. Dailey kind of jogged it in the last 400. She looked off but she’ll be ready later I’m sure.
Her and Williams don’t race often so cool to see them go at it right off the bat !!
Chiara Dailey was registered for PR City, but didn't end up racing. Not sure why, but it would have been a gutsy start to the season for her to face Braelyn Combe right after facing Jaelyn Williams.
Williams is definitely back to being herself after a tough track season. Daily pushed her to a fast time and she responded. Combe looked good at PR City, winning easily. She definitely slept through the 2nd mile, based on her splits. Can't blame her, it looked pretty dark out there.
Daily-Williams-Combe should be an interesting dynamic to watch through the year in California, and will be made more interesting with their Hoka, Brooks, and Nike backing, respectively. Makes for a fun rivalry, although the 3 of them appear to have great, supportive relationships with one another on social media. Daily and Williams will be teammates at Stanford next year while Combe heads to Arkansas.
But they do race in the section?? Just in a different part of the section since Paterson, Riverbank, and Pitman are a part of Stanislus county, and that’s kind of its own thing within the SJS just like how the Sacramento/Yolo-Solano/Placer County area are their own big thing too
