This is very patronizing. You might think anyone in the mid-pack of NYC marathon is simply jogging. But many of them are actually "competing." They are competing against their own time goals, or some may even have the goal to finish in the top 100, 200 or whatever in their age group.
That's no less "competing" than many kids in middle school and high school sports, who have no chance at getting on the podium, but have their own personal goals.
And I don't know who are "we" in your sentence. But I bet many posters on this board are against any trans woman in NYC marathon unless she finishes DFL.
