This made me chuckle. So the Republicans' plan is to highlight their transphobic agenda in order to sway independent voters?

Between targeting LGBTQ+ citizens and immigrants, it seems that the GOP is only concerned with getting straight, white voters to come out to vote for them. That's a shrinking majority.

In this context, the terms mean effectively the same thing - trans or male characteristics that give male advantage (and we aren't talking about children here).

The Lia Thomas story gives their transphobic agenda a leg to stand on. Obviously Lia Thomas doesn't belong in a women's swim competition. So because of that, they want to ban all transgender athletes everywhere. They blow it way out of proportion because of just a few examples.

I actually kind of got a lot of what I suppose the make-believers would call gender euphoria when I joined the high school track team and could walk around at the meets in a tank top and short shorts all day, similar to how girls could dress all the time in the warm months. But I got over all that stuff. Thank God I was long grown up by the time trans stuff got trendy, there'd be teachers and psychiatrists and doctors and probably my well-meaning liberal parents pushing me to get on estrogen and "become a girl," or I guess it's now, "live authentically as the girl I really am"?

But really, whether someone is "ill" or "well," whether you mean physically or mentally, is a matter of degrees, with a lot of halfway cases out there. I think looking back I certainly had "symptoms of mental distress" but it did not impact my life severely (i.e., I did not seek surgery to turn myself into someone who looks like a girl) so I don't think I was ever "mentally ill" with all that loaded term implies. I was able to complete high school and stopped feeling what people call gender dysphoria while I was in college. This was long before that term was well-known.
