well...
This is a competitive running site!
My marathon PR is 2:59:48 and I can't stand people that brag about their >3h PR... f*cking hobby joggers!!!
Come on, my 400m time projects out to a 2:42 marathon. That would win my local marathon most years so I think I'll ring up the RD and ask for all future prize winnings.

What if I ran 3:02 when I was 12 years old and then lost the use of my legs at age 13? Am I not allowed to be proud?
Greg,
I answered your question, will you answer my question?
Greg, what's the farthest you've run sub 7;00 pace in the last 2 years? and were you to break 7;00 pace for some distance would you be a bit proud. And then get on with the next goal?

I've explained already there is no shame in a 3 hour marathon..

I did 5 mile treadmill runs at 7:00 pace with a slight incline, maybe 2.5%
I don't have any particular goal to hold 7 minute pace

!? On a treadmill ??!
The belt moves under your feet.
Try again

Then why does this thread exist?
There’s “no shame” but also you “shouldn’t be proud” of that time?
What are we doing here?
This is how world athletics views my PRs as well as a 3 hour and 3:07 marathon
Event Performance Points
Men (Outdoor) 1500m 4:20.00 635
Men (Outdoor) 5000m 16:22.67 581
Men (Outdoor) Marathon (Road) 2:48:04.16 581
Men (Outdoor) Marathon (Road) 3:00:00.00 439
Men (Outdoor) 10miles (Road) 57:58.00 581
Men (Outdoor) Marathon (Road) 3:07:00.00 366
i've had a number of times in the last couple of years where i could not break 7 min pace for 5 miles. on land or on treadmill. you can build a lot out of your current situation. i feel lucky, and it's also taken dedication and caution, that currently i could join you. cheers

We should position a judge on the finish line of every marathon in the world to politely inform the >3hr marathoners, “Sorry, you’ve failed to achieve 500 World Athletics Performance Points! Better luck next time!”
You started this thread saying someone shouldn’t be proud of a 3:07 because this is a competitive running website.
Not that your times are somehow better in comparison.
You added that in later because apparently your ego is enormous and you want to make sure everybody knows you aren’t a scrub and are a real runner.
If you want to be a jerk about it fine. But your times aren’t competitive either in comparison to elite runners. You barley would have made varsity in my high school. There is always someone better. Always a higher bar.
You set the bar for competitive times you should be proud of in the marathon arbitrarily and then made sure to brag that you definitely could have done it. Give me a break.
You started a thread belittling people’s accomplishments and then got butt hurt when people called you out.

If you look at the IAAF scoring tables, it's quite clear how they view a 3 hour marathon and how they view some of my PRs.
It's quite clear their is a VAST difference between the two, and that is all I have to say.
Greg, your marathon PR is worth 0 World Athletics Performance Points.
And that is all I have to say.

Somehow I bet it's not. You'll just start another thread.
According to a study by Run Repeat, 0.13% of Americans have finished a marathon and from that only the top 10% of marathon finishers have run faster than 3:24 so I would say a low-3 hour plus marathon is still quite an accomplishment even for guys(2:49 is the cutoff for top 1 percent of marathoners btw). Most Americans don’t have the discipline, willpower, or physical ability to train for and complete a marathon IMHO. Personally I have a pair of 2:42 marathons from 2018 (age 44) and 2019 (age 45) which are slower on an equivalent basis than my half (1:15) and 10K (33:59) PR times from 2019. The marathon is just a harder race than shorter races at least for me.
I actually think anyone who finishes a marathon should be proud of their accomplishment regardless of their time. Not an easy thing to do at all for most Americans.

I ran 16:21 for 5km when I was 20. I didn't even train half the year. What did you run for 5km at that age?
Lol. If that makes you better at running then I’m an Olympian.

This is legit like a 25 year high school reunion conversation.
Former non-athletic: "Yeah, I just finished Boston in the spring. It was really difficult to fit training in between the job, wife, and kids."
Former non out-of-shape track athlete:"Yeah, well your BQ is not nearly as impressive as the times I was putting up 25 years ago."
