Yes, they were. Look at the Doha world champs. Ingebrigtsens, Cheruiyot, Centro, Mahkloufi, McSweyn, Cheptegei, Kejelcha, Engels, Mo Ahmed, Hassan, Schweizer and practically every Nike Athlete save Houlihan all had the new spikes. Even at USAs Thompson and Hassan Mead had the spikes. Woody, Lopez and Centro wore them for the famous BTC 2019 5,000m time trail at the Nike Campus.

I actually think the post you label “the best post” you have seen in years is one of the stupidest posts I have seen in weeks. Apparently.nobody remembers the INDOOR mile when Kejelcha ran 3:47.01, Gregorek 3:49.98, Prakel 3:50.94 and Wynne 3:51.26. This was March 2019. Remember the biggest talent in Kiprop was busted and of course 2020 was somewhat lost due to the pandemic. You have Ingebrigtsen running 3:28 at age 19 last year. Then there simply were not as many opportunities to run fast at 1500m.

I didn't see this commented in the other threads, but rewatching the race, it looked to me like Hocker waited until he was sure he wouldn't pull Romo up to Teare before making his move. He seemed to go once he knew Romo had no chance and knew it would be Oregon 1-2.

Indoor is nothing special over middle distance. Not anymore. It's just as fast, faster even. Ask Galen Rupp about his train-through time trials, when magic shoes weren't invented yet.

Outlier performances are no more meaningful than ordinary performances in any case. If everyone's wearing the magic shoes, and they aren't all breaking records, then the magic is bunk.

People believe what they want to. Marketing is expert at manipulating this.

Teare said in the interview afterwards that he knew what Hocker could do because he had seen him do it in workouts, implying that he was coming flying around him in speed workouts. It was a little reminiscent of when Eric Jenkins beat Edward Cheserek in the 3000m at indoor nationals, because in both cases the lead Oregon runner thought he had it won and his teammate came from out of nowhere to get the pass before the line. Had Teare realized he was coming earlier, he might have held on, but I think that he also knows that Hocker has a better turn of speed than he does.

People on here anointed Ches the king so long ago, big man. Everyone eventually gets hated on though. Ches eventually went from hero to villain. There was also the "he's super old" thing that started when he was in HS.

As for Rupp, he's just an unlikable fellow.
