Interesting hire of a guy pushing 60 with a great ‘track’ pedigree at a school that is made for distance running (location/trails). They can’t even host track meets?
I guessing they will still be bottom of barrel in the region in XC but should make drastic improvements on the track.

Had a chance to coach some wonderful people and outstanding athletes but reality is that making it a career means sacrificing family and personal life to a degree that is obsessive compulsive or narcissistic. You spend your life sacrificing everything to help others and one day you wake up and go who in this rat race is concerned about MY well-being?
Track is better at all other levels when it comes to coaching than D1. I have done virtually all and have close friends who have shared experiences across various levels and we all say the same. D1 is the worst representation of our sport from middle school to professional.
Excellent attempt at humble bragging in the middle. Your message could have been clear without that. My bet is you haven’t done any of those things, don’t know what you are talking about, and are simply gaslighting all of us to have less people apply for jobs you want. Since there are 2 track championships each year and 1 XC championship if they get a lot better in track that seems like a good move for the athletic department.

This is a weird hire for UNC Asheville. Why would he go two years at Leinor then to Asheville? That Asheville Job has been posted for like 7 months now! My guess is that UNC will continue to not support the programs and his was a good Retirement laid bag job for him where he lives!

UNCA will never be able to recruit a real track team with so little money. They already had a solid distance coach and sprint/field coach...with no ability to recruit. Can’t do worse than previous coach, though.

Anotherbrickinthewall is an actual coach, and I am pretty sure I know who he is, because he was my coach in the beginning of his career. I watched him throughout his career, and what he says is true. People on here have alluded to some of what he says, being a DI coach takes a lot out of you
