Women runs 520 miles on treadmill in 7 days but doesn't get WR as Guinness says her witness doesn't count

The real crying shame about this is that if she managed a genuine 400 miles, as opposed to the high estimate of 495. That's still an incredible amount of miles to do on a boring treadmill in that time; especially for someone so inexperienced at official events.

I think if there wasn't such a hullabaloo of a GWR attempt, complete with a cringe worthy social media campaign, she would still have won all the same sycophantic fanboys and girls she got from her good looks and talk of unicorns, but also won some quiet respect from a few seasoned ultra-runners. Myself included.

As things stand now, Amy comes across as being not that bright, and a bit of a cry baby. Dave K comes across as being not that bright, but a bit sensitive and snappy.

Will be interesting to see how things pan out now that scrutiny of all past challenges and their "charity" work is on.

60 miles per day should be doable for Amy Hughes. From the detailed video analysis, we can account for about 48 miles on Sept. 6th and 54 miles on Sept. 7th with quite a bit of missing video from each day where she should be doing some more running and then sleeping:

You have about 1/7 of the time in question accounted for. You're assuming for the other 6/7s that she was able to maintain this level of fitness. That is a huge leap. Also, think about why these videos are still available and why others have been taken down or were never been made available. If anything, you're likely seeing her very best effort. You should not use that as a baseline. Some people can do 60 miles in a day, but far fewer can keep that up for a week. There's nothing here to suggest that she falls in the latter group.

Totally agree, my gut feeling is she ran roughly 62 miles on day one and probably somewhere around 70 miles on each of the remaining 6 days. In the absence of any other evidence, I will use common sense and my knowledge as a qualified endurance coach, to say that there was very little chance that she was able to throw down several fast 5/10k efforts after several days of running.

Amy and Dave have a history of over-estimating and under recording the data...this was evident in the 53 marathons in 53 days. I've had several anecdotal reports from people who ran with them that one or more of the marathons were shorter than 26.2 miles. Obviously anecdotal evidence is hard to rely on. It would be great if they would release any data they have to support their 53 marathons. It would help us build a truer picture rather than having to rely on anecdotal evidence.

Agree, and to think Yorkie and Scam are even suggesting that maybe she could have done 400 miles or more is getting out there with Amy and the fairies and skipping the light fantastic in never never land.

Maybe someone else can try asking Millet Sports for the Amy Hughes live stream links so we can figure out who is more right. I don't think they will respond to me.

Do you have clock times for those videos?

It was stated that the treadmill would reset after a certain distance. That may be true, but doesn't it have a cumulative odometer? My treadmill resets the dashboard everytime you turn it off or remove the safety pin, but it always retains the cumulative miles. You can see the cumulative miles by holding down certain buttons.

Assuming Amy's treadmill had that feature, one could easily document how far the belt went. However, it would not tell you how far it went when Amy was standing on the side rails, or not even on the machine, or holding onto the hand rails. Just because the treadmill logged 521 miles doesn't mean that Amy did.

I don't have the exact time of day those videos started and ended but you can deduce roughly what part of the day it is based on the number of people in the videos and that the physio is only there from 5am-8am and 6pm-9pm:

For the duration of the videos, you can easily check that the overall time in the table matches the overall time in the YouTube videos. Each video is unbroken so we know the video time is the overall time for each recording.

Are you sure they even have access? Does a livestream automatically get archived? Maybe someone can do an experiment with a youtube account, make a livestream and see if it's still available in your channel after you end it. It seems to me that for storage purposes, youtube would probably default to deleting it unless you specifically saved it.

Live stream videos on YouTube are automatically archived and stored to the channel. Unless they intentionally deleted the videos, they should still be there:

When you stream, a public single archive will be generated up to 12 hours. You have the option to check the Make archive private when complete in the Stream Options tab.

The archive will be available in the Video Manager.

Seeing as how YouTube limits a single live stream session to 12 hours, it wouldn't surprise me if Amy/Dave/Millet Sports didn't actually record all 7x24 video. The live stream was done with an iPhone mounted to a tripod and when the 12 hour limit comes up it stops and Dave Keighley would have needed to notice and start a new stream. Most likely what happens is that he doesn't notice for a few hours, which is why we have those big gaps in the live stream videos for Sept. 6 and Sept. 7 after the initial 12 hour stream. It kind of makes sense why they would be so reluctant to share the video because they do not in fact have 7x24 coverage like they do prominently claim.

I've never done anything like this, but as an experienced runner I expect that cumulative fatigue is a huge factor.

So you could hit a decent number on day 1 if you just kept moving for 19 / 20hrs, but after that it's going to be very difficult.

You also have to factor in that 6mph is about marathon pace for Amy. As slow as it sounds, anything between 4 to 5 mph is not super-easy for her. It's equivalent to a decent runner (say 2h 30 marathon) grinding out 7 minute miles. Ok for a while but not for 10 hours plus daily and then repeating day after day.

I think you hit the nail on the head. There are probably no tapes to be found.

Besides, why would they (or Dave, if you insist Amy is innocent) record 24x7 if he knows they're not anywhere close to the record. It only makes sense to preserve the effort if you're going to use it to prove your case. If you know you aren't going to make it, there's no sense recording incriminating evidence that could be used against you.
