Henry: you got to come to San Diego area next year and run the Carlsbad 5k road race. It is one of the fastest, certified 5k courses in the world and has had records set there. It attracts the pros, too.

Yes, he is right.....If you are sharp at that time next year; you can set the world road 5k record there...no doubt....you will be a fit, 150 lbs by then and doing intervals, etc....you will be sensational. I might come down from Los Angeles to see you there.

The 192 day of training phase II. I'm fasting for a few days starting today, take one day at time and see what will happen.

good luck, Henry! Great result in your 5k in Cincinati, considering the weather, your weight and your stage of training level. It is apparent that the talent is STILL THERE in you! You are just starting to re-awaken it!

I second the statement. Get that weight off and you will start to fly! You are lucky that you have not had knee problems, carrying all that extra weight. I sure did.

The 193 day of training phase II.I ran the same way along Tramway longer than yesterday out and back for 201 minutes.I could feel it on my left hipp and down the budocks.
It is realy getting into the tendons, perhaps to the bones. Not only that, also into the heart and the head.On top of that I'm talking to myself saying,
"This is what I need is the base work it might look grandy pace;however, it will rise up after a long strong foundation cemented into the basement."

To me too,agreed
My day continues with 20 minutes sauna + 20 minutes swiming-pool + 42 minutes whirlpool.Like I say from 180lbs to 140lbs is the plan to hit world marks and I think me too agrees with me.

The 194 day of training phase II,33mwp + 63mhc + 34mcd =130 minutes.I'm working so hard this week to move from phase II to phase III.Hopely by next week I will hit it right by the point. This body is hard as a rock.
My left leg is running out of oil in the circut joint,I have to grease it up for almost 45 minutes before I start running this morning, thus it takes alot of tiger balm greasing.
Then I start rolling it up slowly to catch up with running speed until it becomes normal running wheels.

I don't want to say "I told you so", because I am a big fan of HR and want to see you succeed in your comeback as a Masters runner; but, as many have warned you over the past few months, as an "over 50" runner, there is a real possibility of arthritis and knee problems, even WITHOUT carrying an extra 30 lbs. Injuries are the #1 stopper for those over 40, trying to run seriously.
You had better make an honest effort to lose that weight or you can kiss your dreams good bye. You cannot afford to let another 2-3 months slip by.
good luck!

Wait a minute. Is it not the training as I am doing now is the only way to lose 30 lbs? How do you lose 30lbs? You tell me I am corncerned.
The only way I can lose weight is by doing minutes attendence. The more minutes I do, the more weight I lose all the way to the circuit joints bones as I say earlier.
Henry
Training helps, but you also have to reduce calorie INTAKE, especially as you get older. When you were younger your metabolism was faster, which burned calories 24 hours a day. Unless you cut back on what you are eating, it will take you forever to lose any meaningful weight at your age.
I lost 28 pounds in 4 weeks this year by eating one reasonable meal a day and nothing else. I'm still at that weight, and though I am eating more now I work off any excess in my workouts. The workouts aren't enough to lose more, but enough to keep me from gaining what I had back.
Bottom line is if you want to lose any meaningful weight you have to be prepared to be hungry. Period.
Henry, I know you drink a lof of tea, but I was wondering, do you use sugar in it..?
If you do, start drinking your tea with NO sugar. You can add skim milk or lemon instead. You won't like it at first, but if you try long enough, you'll like it!!
Just making one change, such as giving up sodas and sugar in your drinks, can make a tremendous difference.
Also, I second beenthere, you have to be ready to feel *hungry" for a few days before your body adjusts to your reduced diet. It's OK..you're tough, you're a runner!!
The very best of luck!
henry: start keeping a daily log of what you eat and drink. write down EVERYTHING. Once people do this, they are shocked at how much they actually consume during a day.
I work out of my 'home office' for a year now, and promptly gained 25 lbs in that time. My wife had to point out how many times a day and night, that I would wander into the kitchen and grab something to eat and drink....and I really didn't even notice it myself!
Hi Henry; Just keep to the plan. You know what works for you and as you lose the weight the times will come down.
All the best. Cheers K

what plan? That seems to be the problem.....6 months have gone by; Henry is running pretty high mileage/minutes, (slowly); but he hasn't lost much weight. Don't patronize him; he needs 'tough love' right now; before those 30 lbs of fat; ruin his knees and his comeback is aborted. (like many masters guys-knee problems are the #1 problem).
get tough Henry!
I must be one of the fortunate few. I'm in my 50's and weigh 5 lbs more than I did in 10th grade, and still have a 30" waist. I eat pretty much anything I want and, at my heaviest when I was not running for a few years in my late 30's, I was only 7 lbs. heavier than I am now. Maybe genetics????

I'm getting there and the weights are coming down.

Great line!
I think that Henry is a genius at listening to his body and figuring out what it's telling him, so I wouldn't want to second-guess his training and weight-reduction program. Henry has proved in the past that he knows how to progress from very, very fat to very, very fit.
I'm curious, though, about what weight Henry was at when he returned to training and what weight he is at right now. I had the impression that he was about 200 pounds a few months ago, and is around 180 now.
Henry, could you also post your weight along with your training?
