The conventional wisdom, which you properly identified as the financial product sales industry, promotes the 100 year track record of double digit equity returns. Rarely do you hear how the investing environment is so much different today than that norm. All the while is forgotten the 4% equity returns of the last fifteen years, and the two over 50% declines in the market. It will be interesting to see how disciplined the buy and hold investors will be during the next soon to come 50% decline.

Sure. Given I avoided the meltdowns of 2000-2002, was in the market 2003-2008, missed most of the meltdown in 2008-09 and then got back in in 2009 and then out in late August 2013, putting me up @ $300k to $500k over where I would have been, why not?

Why not? Quite simply because trying to time the market invariably leads to missed opportunities. You know, like pulling out in August 2013 and missing 2 years of a bull market.

And investment advice includes using dollar cost averaging.

Dollar cost averaging is a terrific investment strategy. Quite simply, a transaction at a lower price results in more shares than one at a higher price. Who doesn't like to buy low?

Sorry I miss quoted, Goldman Slachs paid Hillary not $100,000 for a speech but $675,000 for three speeches. Boy that's a lot of money. I wonder why Goldman Slach paid her so much?
