Which schools have six paid coaches on staff and no throws coach?
I am sure a few are out there, but that is a conscious decision by a head coach to invest in other areas and not a result of a lack staff or resources.

Boise does not appear to have a paid throws coach (according to their site). But they just prove my point. They have a lot of distance coaches; they are going heavy in XC/distance and not trying to be well rounded. A 7th coach would not make Boise more well rounded as they would use the position to hire another coach to recruit distance runners.
As I said before, there is no need for more coaches. 6 is enough to cover all events; but some head coaches choose to ignore events. A 7th coach will not change this.

I completely agree with you. Kind of like how the Power 5s try to have "cross country only" scholarships passed every so often.
Not sure how these coaches who go all in distance only feel good about their programs when they do have success but only because of all the money being thrown in one event area only?? There is no challenge in that... It is not Track and Field... Cross Country only... Should not be allowed.

SVSU hired a distance assistant- not sure who but it wasn't anyone I know that applied.

You mean like NAU? They would have had a shot this year at the indoor national championship with only distance runners. Regardless how you feel about that, its sure damn impressive!
The sport has taken a hit over the years in track and field. It is has it’s been hit in scholarship money, program budgets and coaching staff. Many colleges and universities do not understand what a track and field program looks like or How it should be structured. So when they are looking for a head coach often a distance Coach is hired rather than a track coach. Many distance coaches have learned to be great track coaches and many just prefer to stick to distance. This is not the fault of the coach this is the fault of the university or college. Until the sport is taken seriously by athletic directors and not just as a boost for admissions or title 9 The sport will suffer. When a coach is in a position to bring in numbers and win with limited scholarship money they must do what they feel is best for their program. Your comments and thoughts show a lack of understanding of this reality. This kind of thought goes along with the argument of having seven coaches on staff. Programs have been eliminated all over the country and you’re asking for more coaching staff. I agree that every program should have a throws coach but not every program can afford one. That’s why we have the dilemma of having just distance coaches or just sprint coaches, or any other specialty event coach as a head coach. Go through websites of different colleges and see how many colleges only have one Full-time coach. Never mind the colleges that still just have an entire part time staff.
For what it's worth. Some programs are not in a position to hire coaches for each event group. A coach that's committed and ready to do what it takes, will make it happen. I was part of a program, where the head coach was a distance guy. It was him and the sprints coach on paid staff. He learned throws and didn't hesitate to sign them. In a short period of time, produced a 2 time All-American in the shot.

You should be allowed to spend your scholarship however you please as long as you are under the decided limit.

Tell that to sprints programs that don’t have distance. Same thing. Not sure why all the hate. In some conferences the level to score is high. The good athletes want to go where there is a strong commitment to an event area. Why invest in an area you won’t score at your conference. It makes sense for d3 programs to cover all event areas but often that’s not the case in D1. Why would LSU put money in distance? Doesn’t make sense. Put money where you can impact.
Any other p5 job movement rumored? For any events? Or is this year really going to be dead? The hiring freezes for most places are over already with some lingering till August.
