Florina is a woman in the F55 age group. She needed 4:00:00 or under and she ran 3:54:39 in Berlin (as per her instagram).
So, in ideal conditions in Boston she ran 16:48 slower than her PB. It's magic.
Well, let's elaborate 'shortly' on this 'special case'. 😉She contacted me the 7th of November after Chicago Marathon 2025 where she ran around 4:30 and asked if it was possible to run faster in Valencia even if short time left to get some better shape. I told her it was of course little time to train before Valencia to run faster but of course not impossible when I had done ' magical' coaching cases in little time training before. She then ran 4:19 in Valencia and around 11 min faster than Chicago. Then she rested from training several weeks during Christmas and New Years Eve on holidays and came back in my coaching in February this year. Then now she ran even faster in Boston and 4:11: 27 official time ( she had 4:09:43 on her own watch she paused for a short toilet visit) . Her Pb 3:54 was back in Berlin 2024 . 🧙♂️
I bet she will never beat her PB with you as her coach.

I bet against you.😁 I'm convinced she will if she just keep on with the magic and prepare for a longer time before next marathon😉 . 🇸🇪 🧙♂️🇸🇪
I do , but under different conditions and money VS money and I get atleast 5 months uninterrupted ( no injuries or healthproblems ) to prepare her for next Valencia or Amsterdam marathon. 😉😁🧙♂️

BTW, Valencia is about 5 minutes faster in comparison to Chigaco

No injuries...does snapping of the rubber band count? That seems to happen a lot

BTW, and you probably then in the same way want to claim Boston would be 7 min 40 sec faster than Valencia? 😁🤣🤣🤣

Pretty wild claim!
The Chicago Marathon course records are held by Ruth Chepngetich (2:09:56 in 2024) for women and the late Kelvin Kiptum (2:00:35 in 2023) for men.

omigod, even in the most simple thread JS cant help lying.
and i like the way you now qualify 'five months of 'magic' training without injury' since, magically, your athletes keep getting injured.

for “normal” runners (so not elites with priority starts), the difference mostly comes down to course, weather, and crowding. All three are fast, but they feel quite different. Short answer: 👉 Most recreational runners run their fastest time in Valencia, then Berlin, then Chicago. 🇪🇸 Valencia Marathon Course: very flat, few turns Weather: usually ideal (10–15°C / 50–59°F, low wind) Crowds: less crowded → less weaving Why it’s fast: everything is designed for fast times, even for amateurs 👉 Big advantage: you can hold your pace without constantly dodging other runners. 🇩🇪 Berlin Marathon Course: extremely flat, famous for world records Weather: generally good, sometimes a bit warmer Crowds: very large event → can get crowded 👉 Still very fast, but you may lose some time due to congestion, especially if you’re not in a fast start corral. 🇺🇸 Chicago Marathon Course: flat Weather: more unpredictable (can be warm or windy) Crowds: big and sometimes tight 👉 Can be fast, but conditions are less consistent for a personal best. Honest advice If your goal is a PR: 🥇 Valencia → best chance 🥈 Berlin → almost as good, but busier 🥉 Chicago → slightly more risk (weather)
Today it was time for a maxVO2 interval again and this time I ran 10 x 400m + 10 x 1 min reps with rest back to 120 bpm , all at pace 4:24 min / km . 🧙♂️🇸🇪
Today a nice 60 min easy steady run outside in nice weather + 15 C° , average 6:08 pace . A good day ..... 🧙♂️
If you cannot train a 55 yo lady to run 4hrs, you are no coach. It doesn't even require any special training other than running.
10 yrs ago I was preparing for a popular Ultra and a lady friend of similar age I had wanted to go with , so I said "only if you do it", but she needed a qualifier marathon and only had some HM's before in around 2hrs. She did just under 4 hrs a couple of months later
No friggin special training. For most, the overwhelming majority of runners, they don't need one. They are wasting their money. They need a head 'coach' that's all. It is the least complicated of all sports.
And if you say you are going to break 20min, you are taking a bloody long time mate.
I will be 70 next year and ticking over 23's with very little running. Just had a routine scheduled op keeping me out of it. May have a crack next year and send you the result, but I'm not starting a thread about it because it will only be attempted if it is important to me
