No disrespect intended, but either you are fibbing or the anonymous USA Today T and F writer. USA Today didn't start until the mid-80s, they were pretty small at that time.
I've heard the same story several times over many years about that reporter being in the room during that discussion. Doesn't necessarily mean it's true, but that story isn't a new one.
Regarding USA Today, by 1987 it was actually the most read newspaper in the United States.
The bigger question is this - If there were many people who knew about it at the time, how come more people haven't come out about drug tests being covered up at the 1988 Olympics? The only other one I've heard of is Victor Conte, but his credibility isn't that great.
