My 5000m best is 14:16.98; and if are wondering what type of speed you need to run under 15:00 you can do it off of a 4:05 1500m but when you are talking about sub 14:20 you need around a 3:50 or faster!
Good luck to you,

Here's the deal I don't like to post on this board a whole lot because I feel that it realy proves nothing but I am gonna give you guys a little of my background just to give you an indication that anything you put your mind to is possible. I guess my indication is you don't have to be the most talented individual to do something with running you jut have to work hard and believe you can do it.
Best of luck!
I did 15:10 and 15:11. Am I worthy?
Seriously, who cares? Is letsrun all about fast runners, or the love of the sport by all who care?
14:28.27i, Terrier Classic
14:46.77i, Conference Championship
14:49.20, Penn Relays
14:52.02i, Cannon Classic
I would have to dig up two very old issues of Rocky Mountain Running News (precursor to Rocky Mountain Sports)to lay any claim at sub 15 (which I don't!). Once ran a 14:20s 3 mile or 5k (can't remember which) on the ski slope from Mary Jane to Winter Park, CO (a drop of 450 feet). The race was in March and we were running along skiers, on 2 feet of hard pack. It was a hoot.
Once did 15:28 5k at 6800 - 7000 feet altitude, but the course was uncertified, so I never counted it.
So seriously, many efforts in the low-mid 15s. THHHHPPT! There you go. Can't say that I'm a false claimer.
This thread would be a lot more meaningul if you changed the time from 15:00 to 20:00, in my very biased opinion.
Wow I don't see any initial slow times in that list. I would say that you were talented from the get go.
I was a 5:20 miler in high school but strung together 26 sub 5:20 miles over the marathon distance when I was over 40. Never broke 15:00 in an actual 5K race but broke it during a 10k, half marathon, and came close on a 5k split during a marathon.
Ran 18:42 in high school (I'm a chick) 17:44 in college, and now am trying to get back under 20:00 in my mid 30s and after two kids...
Who cares if you think it is meaningless. Sub 15 is not a big deal may be it is to you. A lot of people have run sub 15 and I have many times. Get a life. I was answering his question.

Good luck to you,
I ran 14:22 off of 3:56 speed. Perhaps I could have run faster in the 15, but I don\'t think you need to be a 3:50 runner to break 14:20.
First broke 15:00 at age 18 during freshman year of college. Did it indoors, mostly thanks to strength training during cross country season. It's always worth trying to bust one right after xc season when you're pretty strong.
"You guys I'm 11 and ran 12:34 for 5K. I know I suck and should be ashamed about my slow time since there are 6 year old girls who can run faster.
I know all of you do better than this on your training runs every day."
The above time is fictitious. The reflection upon the idiotic mindset of many on this thread ("16:52 in Hicksville USA, you suck!") is real and quite frightening.
Some of you need to grow up and do it much faster than you can run a 5,000.

Right, like running in the mid-15s in that first year means you have no talent...
12:58, just google me
If that 14:39 was on a 200m track you deserve a medal. I ran 3K indoors a couple of times and the number of laps killed me!!!
I haven't broken 15:00 yet. My PR is 19:25
