He criticized the guy’s Instagram post. He didn’t post any other information. In fact, it appears that Murphy redacted his Instagram name and covered up some other identifying information.

I think you have an ace to grind if this is your best example of Marathon Investigation getting something wrong. That post was over 2-1/2 years old and while you may question its newsworthiness, it was not inaccurate.

From your own definition of doxxing says "identifying information" which Derek most certainly published on his Facebook and website by showing full blown photos of the guy and his wife in the clear. What part of their faces were clearly visible do you sheep eyes not see? And there was ZERO reason to have published or posted about this couple AT ALL. Derek was absolutely in the wrong and has no common sense, only an insatiable urge for public adulation from you sheep about how great he is. I cringe every time that I see that he still has this guy and his wife up on his website. It's like Derek has no sense of decency.

And Derek has taken a lot of shortcuts in past articles from not even asking those that he is writing about to even that case where he admits he got wrong information from a running club that he based an article on (funny how that doesn't show up in a Google search of his website anymore).

And now here, Murphy is once again doing something extremely irresponsible and very likely be is wrong for accusing this guy of slapping Ms. Degrading Photos of Men on Instagram. I've watched that Twitter video and nowhere do I see that man slap her on the butt. I see other people bumping into her putting their hands and arms around here. And some appear to also slap her on the back or shoulder. But you cannot with any common sense from this video say there is any evidence of butt slapping. It could very well be that guy thought he was slapping her in the back like the other people were doing but mistakenly slapped her in the butt because she is wearing a loose jacket.

And I see on Twitter that the followers of her and that video are in fact doxxing that guy and posting where he lives.

I absolutely cannot support Derek nor the highly irresponsible role he is playing in doxxing this guy when there is very likely a much more muted explanation for what really happened and what couple be innocent intent. Derek won't be happy until he posts several more articles to milk the sheep and turn this guy into another Frank Meza.

So you are comparing one man slapping another man on his ass when he's running naked to a man slapping a woman's ass while she is fully clothe doing her job? And that seems like an apt comparison to you? And you feel sorry for the guy? Wow. Would you feel the same way if your mother, sister or daughter had been on the receiving end of the slap?

I get the assault part but someone is going to have to explain the sexual bit - if the slapper had been female would this have still been sexual assault? What if the slapper was a gay male or a lesbian or transsexual? what if they were a pre-operative XX female who identified as a male lesbian ?

1) Half his articles are based on information he found on LetsRun. Without LRC his website wouldn't even exist. And now he turns to bashing LRC?

2) He spends a lot of time protecting the identities of serial cheaters, but doesn't see any issue releasing the name of this guy, contributing to the witch hunt.

All sexual assault. The sexual orientation or gender of the attacker does not matter. Touching the private parts of a stranger is sexual assault. Don't do it. Easy enough for you?

Just seeing this. I think this post is representative of some of the issues that come up with hosting a public forum and moderating it.

1) I think Derek's headline is misleading. If someone posts something on Facebook that I disagree with, I don't say, "Facebooks says XYZ". I say someone posted on facebook something I don't like.

2) Just because there are many posts in this thread I disagree with doesn't mean they have to be removed. Often I think it is better to engage with opinions you disagree with and we see some of that dialogue in this thread with posters pointing out this isn't acceptable behavior.

3) If I had to summarize this whole thread I wouldn't argue that most posters are saying "Big Whoop". Yes some posters are minimizing what the guy did. Others are disagreeing with that opinion, saying that this is not acceptable behavior. Overall I would say it is a discussion of people talking about the incident, sharing different viewpoints on it, some doing this in a trolling fashion, and trying to put in context. Now some may disagree with any discussion of "trying to put this in context" and saying it is wrong, But I don't have a problem with that general discussion.

Once again I really recommend this book that discusses how we as a society discus with opinions we disagree with:

I've always been a Derek defender, and I might give him the benefit of the doubt on this one, but intentionally trolling and provoking letsrun seems out of character. Most posters on letsrun have supported him over the years, although there are a few, one real nutcase especially, who rail on him every chance they get. Like you said, seems like he's biting the hand that feeds him.

Sexual assault is an act in which a person intentionally sexually touches another person without that person's consent, or coerces or physically forces a person to engage in a sexual act against their will. It is a form of sexual violence, which includes rape (forced vaginal, anal or oral penetration or drug facilitated sexual assault), groping, child sexual abuse or the torture of the person in a sexual manner.

So the intent is an important part of the criteria. I think it will be determined that the person's intent was humor, not anything sexual. It could be determined that it was simple assault though but I doubt he will get more than a warning.

Was it wrong to slap her ass? Yes, definitely

Does this justify a nation-wide witch hunt? No.

Me too. I even used to donate to his website. I always defended him here.

But this article really rubbed me the wrong way. Attacking the LetsRun family out of the blue, that's way out of line. Using a couple of troll posts to bash an entire community, that's a new low for him.

It seems like Derek forgot he was once one of us. He feels like he is too good for us now. He prefers the adulations of hobby jogger moms on Facebook over his old LRC mates.

It happened to you once, before the Internet and yet you still remember it all these years later. For women this happens many times, can you imagine how sick that makes us feel? To you it's a what's the big deal, but to us it's something that effects our lives on a daily basis. Not funny, not even a little bit.

So yes we want to stop that behaviour completely. We want to be like you where someone slapping our butt never happens and when it does it is a one time horrible memory, not something that we have to guard against every day.

Imagine this was a Yazidi girl in Syria/Iraq circa 07. A convoy of ISIS pass her village and one cheeky jihadi smacks her on the butt. Thankfully they keep driving. She releases a book about the ordeal and Obama invites her to the White house where Michelle gushes about her bravery.

The criticism of the title is fair. I modified it.

I stand by my main point that the users that are blaming the reporter or justifying the actions of this guy are deplorable. We really should be past that point.
