In Lasse Virens book. "Lasse Viren: Olympic Champion" he spoke of workout he would do that i followed for many years.
He would do 20 x 200 with the recovery as short as the run itself. He averaged an amazing 27.8 (if i remember correctly) with his last one in 25.8. This was right before his 2 mile WR of 8:16.
The workout is all about the recovery time. Do not allow yourself more time.
That is not "amazing" for a runner of his caliber. 2.00 800 runner Maria Akraka used to to 20x200 with a minute rest in 27.5 in the off season.
20 x 200 is a good workout but I a pro magic coach had given you a little slower pace and reps @ 35 sec . 🇸🇪🧙♂️🇸🇪
Did that workout a lot in HS (I was a 2 miler) but we would jog a 200 as our rest and we wouldn't do a tempo first, just a regular 1-2 mi warm-up. Also the 200 reps were supposed to stay relaxed, like fast but light. Not grinding down the track. Maybe that will help...
I was a sprinter. Did this each week.
Right after the 10 x 300 day.

In fairness, what you described isn't that workout. You did 10 minutes of harder stuff and Delaware Kid did 30.

One of the worst parts of Lets Run message bard is kids getting on here and questioning their coach publicly. Even more sad when it looks like the coach knows what he/she is doing and its the kid that has no clue.
More focus on executing the training and less of whining and questioning your coach will do you wonders kid.
If their coach had a clue they would be able to describe the workout and purpose to their athletes in full detail.
Agreed. My favorite early-mid season mile workout (about every 3 weeks) was 16-20 x 200 at mile off 1:30 rest. Very easy but gets 4000 worth of mile volume in.
