    Apparently a 1:03/2:10 type ceiling is all it takes to be the best ultra runner on the planner lol? Bring 20 guys from Kenya with 2:03-2:07 credentials to Arizona, coach them for the conditions of States, get them used to racing trail ultras, and one of them will win on their second time out, if not their first. Hell, bring 10 of them and you will get a winner. Ultra is basically another triathlon: one more shallow-field endurance sport where money and being in a niche athletic culture lets you hide from the true talent out there.

    Still not Eric or a coconino or even located in the state of Arizona but keep guessing, it is amusing.

    It would be great prep if you dropped your mileage to focus on speed work and stopped running 30 mile long runs in the grand canyon. You should see that he didn't do that since you've been heavily masturbating over his strava. I said "like six" because I specifically did not go to strava count it but it certainly was not as many track/road workouts at HM pace as your average HM prep. But since you did I'd like to hear the number. Either way, if it is such great prep then why wouldn't literally ANYONE else be doing that?

    I don't disagree that there is a lack of Kenyan talent in ultra running. And I have specifically stated I don't think Jim is the best ultra runner on the planet. That's been nearly proven by his inability to win outside the US. But since when are we talking about Kenyans or the world? Kenyans would smoke 97% of the guys who show up at the US trials anyway in a marathon or an ultra. Not even sure what your argument has to do with his 64 min HM. Except to state the obvious that Kenyans dominate the US in every facet of distance running through the marathon so it would seem reasonable that they would dominate in ultras. Duh. What a profound statement. Gold star for you. Thanks for participating.

    I'd say any guy who does an ultra and wins then in short time competes at a national level race and goes top 10 is impressive.

    I can think of only 2 guys, correct me if stats are off but Joe Gray won the 50k road champs and then shortly after won the national club cross country champs which was 10k so quite a big change. Then there is Max who was top 10 at club cross country and a few months prior won 100k uroc. That's solid! Getting 27th in a half that wasn't even a loaded field like the national champs for half is ho-hum from the perspective of what we expect for a pro athlete. Also Jim hadn't finished any ultras in quite some time, almost 7 months..
