Worlds most overrated tourist destination

Venice is probably the most overrated besides Times Square. It's a cool looking city, but it's been completely touristified. There's no soul to it, so it's just like a fake azz museum.

I feel bad for these couples that save up a couple thousand and take time off for their one big trip of the year to "spend a week in Venice." Lmao scrubs. Go a couple hours east and you're on the Slovenian/Croatian coast. Now that's cool.

I visited San Francisco in my "hippie" days and again as a "mature adult" and didn't find it particularly thrilling either time.

NYC is terrific but I do believe there are tourists who spend all their time in places that natives know to avoid. People who live in Manhattan know Times Square is a place to avoid at all costs.

I've never been much of a fan of Boston. I actually prefer Philadelphia. And I prefer Chicago to either one.

LA is as bad or worse than people have already indicated but again. but in this case I may have missed the parts I would have liked. Most of its is dreadful but I do believe I would have much liked the Canyons, ie, Laurel and Topanga. I somehow never got up there.

Las Vegas would be high on my list, but have to admit that it is so absurd that it makes for an interesting place to visit for half a day, heck, even a full day. If you go there to have fun and eat good food, you must be really desperate.

New York has a lot to offer, but I agree that Times Square is a tourist dump.

New Orleans is overrated, but it is actually a nice place to visit if you stay clear of the French Quarter at night. Plenty of good food and good music off the beaten path.

I tend to agree that visiting Yellowstone and Grand Canyon in a single day, with your butt on a car seat, must be a miserable experience.

Old Faithful. Wait amongst the hoarded for 35 minutes to watch water spray the same distance I could shoot out of my garden hose. But as others have pointed out, Yellowstone is pretty amazing if you hike a mile from the nearest parking lot.

Nashville. Corporatized country music scene. The fathers of the Grand ol Opry would cringe at all the shiny luxury apartment buildings that now dominate the scene. Cheap cowboy boots galore. Confederate flags. Lots of northern transplants who think this phony is the next “it” city. Until they realize the natives call them Yankees and want them to go back home.

Any U.S. city is so dirty and over priced.

Really any place that’s not nature.

I loved visiting yellowstone as a kid. I'm from south minnesota in corn field land though so seeing those mountains and geysers isnt somethin ya see everyday round here.

Super overrated to me:

.-Vegas - this place just sucks

-Las Angelos - I’m from Orange County so LA is just a crappy version of where I’m from

-Prague / Vienna - maybe at one point they were cool but they kinda suck right now. A trillion people and everything over priced with nothing particularly interesting to do. Vienna could be cool though if you have a lot of cash.

-Florence - Italy kinda reminded me of going to a 3rd world country. I liked outside of the main cities but Florence was pretty mediocre to me.

-Yellowstone - I’ve heard it’s cool if you spend a lot of time there but if you visit it for a day only it really sucks.

-Grandcanyon - eh... Havasupai is cool, but it’s pretty boring just looking down at it.

Actually awesome:

-Hawaii. We went and stayed in some Airbnb’s in Kawaii and it was one of the most awesome weeks of my life. You probably went to tourest traps if you don’t like Hawaii.

-Rome - I thought I would hate Rome but it was actually pretty dope. For a runner, the entire city is runnable (I ran around the old hippodrome, then ran to the collesium back to my place and it was like 8 miles). I was super surprised I enjoyed it so much.

-Switzerland - Nothing has ever exceeded my expectations more than Switzerland did. I was even giddy just looking at the mountains and water, it was nuts. I can’t recommend it enough.

I went to Disney World last week for the first time. I wanted so bad to hate it. I expected to hate it.

Unfortunately, for what it is, it’s pretty amazing.

The Alamo - it's just so teeny tiny in person. I thought it was miniature replica when I first saw it.

Yes - SSSSSHHHHHHHHHH. I was in Yellowstone for 3 years studying the microbes in the hot springs. One of the most amazing experiences was staying at a ranger cabin 14 miles into the backcountry next to a lake with NO people for three days. Lots of cool corners if you know where to find them.

Glad you liked it , as I did !

But it's a dump on the NY side - and a price gouge on the Canadian side .

Las Vegas is a hole. Outside of Vegas are some really beautiful places. The city is a real waste of desert, however.

Mt Rushmore

London. Can't stand the place. I see no appeal whatsoever.

Vegas takes the cake. To find anything decent you have to leave Vegas so you’re no longer in Vegas.

Grand Canyon? GTFO! Maybe if you just go to the south rim and peer over the edge like all the other visitors. Only real way to appreciate it is a double crossing although a rim to river may be adequate.

Iceland? Again, GTFO! If you’re high season and don’t leave the Golden Circle then sure, but the beauty of Iceland is all the places outside the Circle. Drive the road or venture into the highlands. Magical.

Yellowstone? Again, get out of the car! Any National Park sucks if you don’t leave the popular route (Zion anyone) but once you venture into the park, any park, it’s amazing.
