So, he is trained by a program akin to the space race for the moon and they couldn't come up with clothing to prevent hypothermia? Hmm. And, he trains year round with an army of doctors monitoring his asthma but are not able to stabilize his condition for moderately wet and cold conditions. This was not Calgary in February and an asthmatic who can run world class times in stifling heat has no idea what severe asthma is like. He likely quit because his team decided to get him another gig.

It has to do with body fat and muscle mass. I was a runner who was built like a football player. I was the 5-7 runner on my cross country team in college, but when the mercury would drop and the conditions sucked, I was 2-4. Skinny lightweights are the first to drop when the weather stinks.

The talk about an AR attempt at Payton Jordon only started after Galen decided to run in PA and not at the Oregon Relays.

That Rupp didn't set the AR was a major disappointment.

So my Dad ran today and called me via phone. He did say he just wanted to beat Galen. So now he is just killin me, with how his tactical plan got him the win over Galen. He says at the half way point he was behind Galen by an HOUR. However, that was his plan, staying back till Galen tired and came back to him. Galen knew my old dad was stalking him about an hour back. So now my dad says his tactics proved good as he finished in 3hrs 44minutes. Told him everyone who finished beat Galen, but he says it was HIS relentless pursuit that wore Galen down. Then he says DID YOU ever beat Galen? Oh man, he is gonna needle me like this forever.

He did what he set out to do. He just couldn't anticipate that Solinksy was going to run as well as he did. What don't you understand about that?

*There still seems to be an equal amount of Rupp defenders as there are Rupp haters.

*People do not understand professional running. Of course Rupp dropped out. So did over 3/4 of the Elite East Africans. Why would a guy with the credentials Rupp has slog his way to a 5-10 finish at Boston and risk injury, illness, etc when he can hopefully regroup and try another marathon sooner and not completely waste 6 months of his life. Sure, it is noble to not drop out, but it also isn't smart. Especially if he was truly having asthma and hypothermia problems, which I do not doubt.

*Just because some people handled the cold better, even in less clothes, doesn't mean that Rupp is faking just because he wasn't doing well. Everyone will respond differently to adverse weather conditions, even without taking into account how they would be feeling on that day regardless of weather.

Don't get me wrong, I did want Rupp to do well, but I am also extremely happy for Yuki. I couldn't stop smiling after seeing him cross the finish line in 1st and watching his reactions. He freaking earned that. I'm not sure how he does it but he was incredible.

I think you might be getting this mixed up a bit, people thinking that every runner from an East African country dropping because none of them could be competitive due to weather (that they don't train in) is soft doesn't mean people don't understand professional running. Seems like Desi did a good job understanding professional running today and being ready for all possibilities, training through tough weather and being ready on race day.

I once had a marathon where a front came through at the start. There was a hard downpour for about 10 minutes just as everyone left the start. Then, it was about 40 deg with a strong north wind and off and on rain. I was ok the first 8-10 mi, but then had a lot of trouble keeping warm. Your body burns so much more energy when you are cold. It really knocks you down. At about the half, I seriously considered my first ever DNF. Fortunately, the winds died down and the sun started to peak in and out with temps going up to 50. But I was totally destroyed and just jogged it in. A training partner just nailed it that day. He never felt cold and had no problem with the wind. People are just different in how they respond to the hot/cold. Most everyone who went for it today would have probably been fine had it been 75 deg but just could not handle the cold.

I'm pretty sure his goal was to set the AR.

He has run great at four out of five marathons he has run. Only someone who has not run a world class marathon would criticize that. Today's weather made it an equalizer.

My distaste for NOP athletes has nothing to do with politics and I dislike Trump a lot more than AlSal. I'd actually say your hypothesis of Trump support = anti-Rupp is false and actually the opposite.

Most Trumpsters would blindly follow like sheep whereas most anti-Trump folks would never blindly support a cheater simply because their American.
