After all, runners only race for the fans. They plan their entire season, every race, every interview, to make the most number of fans happy.
Everyone knows they look at the consensus of letaeun brilliant posters, of which you are obviously one, to plan out both their season and their race tactics.
Clearly, you did not post your thoughts soon enough. Otherwise, Mo certainly would have done what you want. Because it's all about you, and the other fans like you.

Of course, when it comes to high stakes, high calibre races Mo isn't the only one to blame: it's all those other pea-brained Kenyans and Ethiopians who never, ever, ever take risks and never, ever try to out-race him. The most we ever see in 5k or 10k is someone pushing the pace with 2 laps to go. Well, my question is: when you have a team of 3 Ethiopians or 3 Kenyans why on earth aren't you working together, starting out at a brutal pace to destabilise Mo? They never try it. They always run tactically and lose to Mo's superior turn of pace in the final 400m.

It's rather frustrating that the most successful long-distance track runner of this generation, one of the most successful of all time actually has genuinely mediocre PBs (31st fastest 5k runner, 16th fastest 10k) , and what's more frustrating is that he seemingly hasn't really tried all that hard to to improve those PBs. Take Genzebe Dibaba, for instance: every year now she goes for a WR attempt at least 2-3 times. Well, her PBs are pretty good, and of course she now has the 1500 WR previously held by the turtle soup Chinese and thought unattainable.
I agree. It almost makes me want to train hard so I can show them how real runners race. They clearly have no clue.
I'm going to start running 120 miles a week, so I can go out they are seriously try to improve my PB every single year. Once, I've beaten the snot out of Mo Farrah a few dozen times, he'll get the picture.
Then I can go back to posting drivel on Letsrun - which is my real passion.

In the past, we've seen athletes who rarely race prior to championships. They are either Americans with a marginal (Culpepper) or decent shot at medals (Jerry's Boys), or dopers like Lance, Ramzi, and the Russians.
To be fair, Mo races some xc, roads, and track and some of his races are very competitive, like Pre (has to do it as a Nike event) and the half with Kamworor in it and terrible weather. A lot of them are the Mo show in Britain. He is costing himself a great legacy by not throwing down some great times at his actual specialities. He doesn't need to run another 3:28 in Monaco--not sure what he has to lose because Kwemoi isn't running the 5 this year at World's--but why not a 7:26 or 12:45? Why spend the rest of your life defending your legacy and regretting that you never put it all out there in a race?

Can't say that I qualify as a Mo fan but I do enjoy the drama of his races; essentially Mo against the field and he schools them every time.
It is very difficult for me to imagine that a 3:28 1500 runner could do well in the marathon. I can, and did, see a 3:28 1500 runner destroy the competition in a slowly paced 10000 finals though.
What utter garbage ! Putting it all into a race means making sure you win. Suggesting Mo will regret not breaking world records after winning all the major races that he has ran in the last few years is ludicrous. Compare that scenario to that of Ron Clarke who broke loads of world records but never won a Championship . Its easy to understand the regrets. Ron was a great runner but said he would have swopped his records for an Olympic gold. As fans we want Mo to attack records but he prefers winning and he turns out and beats all the guys you say he dodging at the races that really matter.
It would be fun to see a time trial after WC. I think he is not a time trial runner. For example, when the paces of one of his 10ks slowed , he slowed down. He follows other runners and then runs a fast last 1000. It is who he is.
He needs another 12:4x person to race. I think there had been one 12:4x race in 8-10 years. More often than not, his strongest competition does not go all in on beating him. They make it tough but don't risk blowing up and either not medalling or not running a good time. But mainly, the competition is 'only' ready to run mid 12:50s or 26:40s.
This is one of the most common -- and stupidest -- arguments made in support of Farah. Do people not realize that it's entirely possible to aim for fast times in non-championship meets *and* win global championships? You don't have to prefer one or the other. It's very possible to do both, as real GOAT contenders like Geb and Bekele demonstrated.(For what it's worth, Ron Clarke tried to run fast and win titles as well. He just never succeeded at the titles part.) This nonsense about Farah choosing to win championships over targeting fast times, as if you can only do one at a time, is total bunk. There's nothing inherently wrong with choosing to focus on titles, but Farah (and his fans) should realize that this also entails choosing not to pursue other career accomplishments that are required of any legitimate GOAT contender.

If Mo doubles again I would consider him the GOAT regardless of his times.
If he goes in to have a successful Marathon then it is beyond doubt.

So your main rebuttal is that I'm not as fast as Mo Farah? Excellent reasoning there. Nowhere have I claimed that Farah "has got it all wrong." Clearly he's doing plenty of things right, since he's making cash and winning titles.If he wants to be considered the GOAT by most running fans, however, then he is doing a few things wrong. Right now he has a slight advantage over Bekele/Geb in global track titles won. And that's the only thing he has. Bekele and Geb have each:--run way faster than Farah--dominated the Golden/Diamond League circuit (yes, winning regularly against stacked pro fields shouldn't count for nothing in the GOAT conversation)--been considered among the greatest ever at something other than long-distance track running (road running for Geb, and XC for Bekele -- and Bekele's road credentials are obviously extremely impressive too)If you consider track and field championship racing to be the *only* thing that matters in GOAT calculations, then, yes, Farah is certainly in the discussion. But almost no one does. And Farah falls far short in nearly ever other measure.

Sorry, but nobody wants that. Have you ever heard or read interviews with US runners? They hate LR posters. They have individual goals: PRs, time barriers, making teams, winning medals, whatever. Not a single professional runner is clamoring to be the blue collar idol of hardcore running fans. Even Noah Droddy has loftier goals than that!
Look at Paul Chelimo, seems to be at close as we've got to your perfect vision right now--he went out to give fans what they wanted in the US 5k, but do you think that's his season's goal? You don't think he's more worried about medalling in London than he is about appeasing fans who complain about sit-and-kick races? The dude sits and kicks all the time, he sat and kicked in NY instead of going over to London to duke it out with the Ethiopians.
You wanna know some great 5000 runners who don't have impressive marathon times? Daniel Komen, Gebremeskel, Sileshi Sihine, Brahim Lahlafi, Mohammed Mourhit, Salah Hissou, John Ngugi. Just because Geb, Bekele, Tergat and Kipchoge do something doesn't mean it's a precursor to being great. Why doesn't Geb get sh*t for sucking at XC? I thought that was the ultimate benchmark of a runner's balls and heart? He couldn't touch a guy he routinely outkicked on the track.
Has anybody ever considered the fact that he can't run close to the 5000m, 10000m world records as actually being support for a case that he doesn't dope....? If Mo ran 12.37 next week what would we see on these message boards?
