How was Cain talking to these coaches as a freshman and sophomore?

“My parents and I were literally contemplating calling up college coaches, calling Oregon, Georgetown, Stanford, all of those places and saying, ‘Hey, I am going to stop running for two years,’” Cain admitted. “We were at the point of telling coaches, ‘I’ve run 4:11. I know I can run better. I can’t do it right now, but remember me in two years!’”

Cain alienated herself from her high school team. Her high school coach was one of the best in history Her family shows a real lack of character when they try to undermine the program and the coach. If you look hard enough, people do know the answers, the issues stemmed from the ignorance of her family.

They can talk to coaches as long as they are the ones that initiate contact.

To be a successful distance runner, one has to have the mentality of a 45 /o career man. Any distance runner worth a salt is "grown up", in HS, college, or beyond...

I'm sorry-- but being one of the best high school coaches in history does not qualify one to coach a world class athlete.

i've met Salazar several times since the late 70's. He always struck me as being a miserable person devoid of any honesty or decent ethical sense.

It doesn't seem possible that the Cains were unaware of Salazar's involvement in the Athletics West doping scheme, They must have known that he was a mentor to the doper Mary Decker. It doesn't seem possible that the Cains didn't know about the NOPe willingness to use any illegal methods available. It is obvious that Salazar is a liar when he says that he called the Cains just to offer advice about running mechanics. Salazar was clearly looking to poach another athlete in a desperate and pathetic attempt to massage his massive but fragile ego. The Cains saw that Mary Decker, Regina Jacobs, Marion Jones and others benefited far, far more from their doping than they were hurt by the token penalties after they were caught. This has always been about the money that Mary will amass at the expense of any athletic fairness, pure and simple.

Mary Cain's parents are monsters for sending their kid to be looked after by a horrible, nasty person. They don't care about her health or her education. They have to be sickos to entrust their kid to someone nicknamed "Sleazy".

The Cain parents pimped out their child without a moment of hesitation.
