What time's do you consider to be elite?

Please don't hold your breathe waiting for an answer as he (troll) has an excuse for everything. He's far from the definition of elite, except his own definition.

Just watched the Millrose 3000m and Tim Hutchings said that 7:50 was "good national standard racing" and 7:43-7:45 was "world class" ...

... 7:38 is "deeply embedded in world class".

Do you guys consider Elite to be above world class? I would say that it has to be.

I would say though that from Hutchings' viewpoint that "elite" covers a spectrum of the world class range. Which would cover the sharp end (7:25 or whatever is the best that year - I know that 7:25 has not been done in a long time) up to say just "merely" world class (7:45).

Indoors - I suppose it goes for outdoors too, even though they don't run the 3k much -

8:00 - Great, should make the all-time list in your school, some schools it will be a SchoolRec. Will get into any race except the top National ones.

7:50 - National class - Should be recorded on the all-time list in your nation and will get into any race except top ones on the circuit (either US, Europe or DL).

7:38-45 - World Class / Elite - Should challenge for the win in any race except where they are going for a NR or WR. Will be near the top of all-time lists and may hold NR in weaker nations. Will be paid to race in most races.

7:25-34 - Best in the World / Best of World Class / All-Time Great (obviously this level is Elite - but it is the top tier of Elite and above some others that are also considered Elite) - Should challenge for the top time in the world each year. High on the all-time List. High on ALL lists! No worry about getting into races. You might call the shots on who is in your race depending on what end of the range you are at.

So, according to you, in a 1500m race, 3:27 for second place would be hobby jogging but a 5:00 for a win would be elite. Gotcha.
