Babyjoggers should be outlawed in ALL races

Thanks Doc.....I am in Illinois as well and have relatives and close friends that are Doctors that have had to shell out so much money for malpractice insurance, and they are afraid of making incorrect diagnoses, because "big brother is watching over them. I feel soory for those in the medical profession today.

It is scary out there and right now I am going back to school for a teaching certificate in PE and there are so many things we have to worry about, especially safety - which is our number one priority . It seems like no matter the profession, event or whatever we have to protect our butts! It is a bummer.

Waaaaahhh! My father is a doctor and has to pay very high insurance premiums. He makes an outrageous salary, has a two beautiful homes and drives two Lexus. Are we supposed to feel bad for you? It's not strollers that drive up your premiums, it is the drunken surgeon who leaves his patient on the table to go get his scratch tickets (MA).

My husband and I are both competetive runners. When we both go to race events, one of us lines up with our competitors and the other may or may not run with our child in the back of the pack. Neither one of us have ever encountered any negativity nor have ever seen or impaired anyone.

Are you really that stupid? This whole “I don’t see it so it is not true” thing is old. So because “I” do not see people getting killed in Iraq, it is not happening and all of the news groups are lying.

It is people like you that feel they have to makeup for being a horrible parent by brining their kids to a race, and do not care about the consequences. Hope you will be happy when the lawyers make all of the rules and we have to run in full pads and helmets.

Out of curiosity, it would seem as though those who are strongly against strollers seem to be from the Midwest and those that do not have a problem from the Northeast. Is this true, or am I read more into this then there is?

You are not very nice. I surmise you have no idea of what parenting is all about. Don't generalize someone's obsevations and compare it with Iraq. That is outrageous.

If the entry form says no stollers or babyjoggers, leave them at home PERIOD.

Reading through the crap on this thread, what irks me the most is the attitude of the pro-strollers that as long as no physical harm is done by strollers then there is no cause to complain. The most annoying part of the stroller issue is that it causes umpteen people to shift their stride and focus to staying clear of the out of place child in the middle of a foot race. I don't enter races to jog, and they are not called "baby racers", they are JOGGERS. Every mother/father on here lecturing about being a responsible parent that cares for their child are using their kid as an excuse for their own lack of care for the experience of others. I've run in staggered 10ks where people, somehow, got on the course with strollers and it unnerves me because I'm worried about having to cut in front of their path after I pass them, giving enough room incase someone takes a dive, watching where I spit at water stations etc...And all the while the stroller scene is oblivious to how distracting they are to the other participants in the races. So please, if you cant find someone to hold your kid for 18-40 minutes, then you should be forgoing doing that or any other of YOUR activities for that time being. Keep the strollers on the trails and sidewalks and not in a crowd of people out to run as fast and solid as possible. If someone were to run a race with a pit-bull on a leash, you'd be mentally unfocused when you came upon it; it's the same thing with baby joggers.

This issue doesn't seem to be East vs. West. It seems that there is one really angry group using profanity and vulgarity vs. another group of people that have kids and want to enjoy their sport.

Are there issues with strollers at races, yes. Are all people with strollers guilty of violating the race rules and impeding people, of course not. There are many races that welcome stollers and I personally have not read or heard about problems other than on this ridicluous thread.

I don't have children, but I would not criticize someone's parenting skills because they choose to run a 5K with their child. Seems illogical.

That being said, they should be careful with those things and obey the race rules.

good post. golden rule works well here. Plus, plain and simple they are breaking the rules when participating with the BJogger. they seem to think they can because, well, they're them. not yet heard a coherent reason -- just excuses -- as to why people with kids are exempt from the rules -- other than well they're out KIDS. Immaterial: be considerate and play by the rules.

The bummer is that we have to fricking protect ourselves as teachers and cover our asses on a daily basis.

When I was a kid I got slammed around in PE class all the time, no one was seriously hurt but now if a kid gets a scrape, the parents are on the phone with their attourneys. It is total bs.

There's an idea... I'll get my pitbull and jog beside someone with a baby stroller. Let's see how unsettling that would be to the doting parents...

Stroller Moms and Dads, it's time to pull your heads out of your arses.

Do you think everyone on here would be so flippin' distressed if no one gave a rip whether you bring a baby stroller to a race or not? Do you think they are just picking fights with you out of boredom? Do you not see that there is a major safety concern here?

Your baby stroller hazard is a real issue here on many levels, from injuries to inconvenience to lawsuits. Now maybe you are not confronted by your competitors at races, but most people are too polite to confront a new parent, even if you are absurdly selfish. But you are subjecting your fellow paying runners involuntarily to a hazard, when in most cases the race director prohibits you from doing so.

We can take action. Memorize the Bib number of anyone you see with a baby stroller and report it to the race director at races that don't allow baby strollers. If the parents are too selfish to follow the rules for the safety of the public, at least report it to the race director. This will help bring to public scrutiny the selfishness of the offender in the local running community and race scene.

Meanwhile, take your baby around the neighborhood for a run if he likes it so much and you can't get free for a race. I swear, you baby-stroller advocates are so selfish and self-righteous it's actually a disservice to your cause.

Here's the real problem. It's not the race where the strollers is a problem. It's after the race when they continue to use the big strollers walking around. How can I keep from spilling my beer with all these things around. I keep tripping and spilling, tripping and spilling...
