This is the issue to a “T”. What we have, especially in Illinois and the Midwest is a lawsuit crises which has lead to higher insurance rates for everyone. As a doctor, I have to spend up to 75% of my yearly pay to cover insurance premiums. As a result, my partners and I are in the process of leaving the state and moving our practice to Missouri. For those who do not know, Illinois is now in medical crises with over 65% of the states doctors leaving in the past four years. Given this environment, how long until this will also be race coverage here. As our sport has gained in popularity, those who know the rules and basic decorum of running has shrunk. The days of niceties and concerned running have long since gone, replaced by a self centered approach to running that cares not about the sport itself, but on one’s personal performance. It is this decline in the moral standing that has lead to so many people hating these strollers, and the base for my concern for the sport in the area.
This is what I am saying; you can love the sport, and you can love your kids. You can even run with them all you want, even in a stroller. All that I am asking is that you not race with a stroller. Race with your kids when they are older, you will both enjoy it much more and can make it a wonderful family outing. To race with a stroller only numbers the days left before lawsuits start to take place and reshape the sport into a fashion none of us want.
