We all know contact happens when runners are packed up, but this girl had absolutely no reason to be close enough to trip a runner she was trying to pass.

The problem is you are talking about whether or not she should be disqualified. This is not what concerns most of us primarily about this entire incident.

The issue here is the blatant corporate strongarming from Nike.

They petioned for appeal. Denied. Appealed that. Denied. Appealed the appeal. Denied.

Then...a back door meeting and suddenly...a DQ!

The fact that a corporation has the power to alter the very outcome of a race, removing competitors to get what they want ought to be concerning to everyone. Even if you think DQ was warranted, realize the process by which the DQ result was achieved was unethical. Allowing this passively just opens the door for blatant abuse.

RULE 163

RUNNING COMPETITION

3.

Each competitor shall run in a direct line after entering the final straightaway in all races

of two or more turns unless there is another competitor in his or her path.

4.

Any competitor or participant jostling, running across, or obstructing another competitor

or participant so as to impede his or her progress shall be liable to disqualification in that

event. The Referee shall have the authority to order the race to be re-held, excluding the

disqualified competitor or, in the case of a heat, to permit any competitor(s) seriously

affected by jostling or obstruction (other than the disqualified competitor) to compete in a

subsequent round of the race.

This is from the USATF rules. I watched the video several times and yes there was jostling and impeding. However I don't think the contact to Hasay was intentional, as Hasay moved closer to the inside on the turn and there was no way to avoid the contact. I also don't think the contact was significant enough for a DQ. I would be pissed to get clipped like that from behind, but it happens.

Dibaba is an Adidas athlete. Just wait till she laps everyone in the field and then is DQed for touching another runner near the start of the race.

Jordan Hasay sucks. How much extra money can Nike and Salazar possibly make by Hasay getting 13th, 15 seconds back from the winner?

Gabe is a 4:01 runner. She had a legit medal shot in the 3000m. It's so frustrating to see the people that can actually compete stay home.

I watched the video, it shows two things.

1 - USAFT suck and are corrupt as any third world country.

2- Al Sal is a prick and by association so is Nike.

I'll never buy any Nike shoes or equipment again. I'm sick of Al Sal and his dirt bags. From Rupp and his time in college as an amateur ...? to Farah the fraud.

Your own words rule against Hasay. The contact happened after they were already into the turn. Thus Grunewald was not "running across" to impede Hasay, but instead was maintaining her established position on the inside rail. Hasay "moved across" Lane 1 (from it's outside to inside) to get tighter to the rail, and into Grunewald, potentially "impeding Grunewald's progress". In doing so, Hasay's trail leg clipped Grunewald.

It was incidental, and did not affect the outcome, so "no foul" as ruled at the time of the event, was the satisfactory call.

having raced in Europe...a lot....that isn't close to a DQ...rubbing is racing folks. what a joke.

If I ran a flat, sluggish race and inadvertently got my heel clipped, I'd be embarrassed if my coach would use an outrageous claim to try to move me up. Hasay runs well sometimes but rarely keeps it together for an entire race. Salazar and NOP are a huge stain on the sport. USATF is in Nike's back pocket.

I'll be cheering for Hasay to fall down and get trampled at worlds. That may actually be her best race tactic.

There's a reason you don't see elite 1500 women coming to Gabe's defense. It's because she has a reputation for this kind of dirty racing behavior. Case in point, the 2012 trials - and there it was not a nike athlete instigating the protest.

While you might be right (it does sound like there is some truth to that), in no way did GG deserve to be DQ'd here. Further, it is more drrrty to have the nike "swarm" come in and change a final decision.

The way Gabe races is completely normal on the European circuit. Americans are too soft and too frequently are shocked when they get into their first world-class races.

You are missing the point SO COMPLETELY that I almost think you a trolling on Nike's behalf.

The POINT, since you are missing it, isn't whether or not Grunewald's actions warranted a DQ. That is a matter of rules, and interpretation of rules.

The POINT is that certain athletes/coaches have access to different influence over that interpretation, and therefore are PLAYING BY A DIFFERENT SET OF RULES than their competition.

This is the issue.
