Are you part of a team? Or self trained. I am also a 15 year old sophomore and while I am very well studied in the techniques of training I feel like my XC coach isn't getting me anywhere. Consequently, I wonder about whether or not I should continue to be part of his team.

Give us a sample week of the training provided by your coach. And also, do you enjoy being on the team? In HS having fun is the most important point, because in theory due to physical maturation you should improve every year regardless of training as long you don't overtrain or get injured.

With a 9:00 3200, you should be running a much faster 5000 and 10k than what you've indicated. 5000 should be @ 15:00 or better and 10k should probably be in the 30:30 range.
Breaking 15 will be my goal, then. It may be very ambitious, but so is a kid living in Arkansas wanting to be on Oregon's team. Every year I will peak for NXR and try to break 15 there as a Junior and Senior. If I don't make Oregon, there's always the club team.
I'm self trained. I have slight coaching from friends, but I mostly make my schedule how I want it. Maybe if your coach isn't doing anything for you, you could move to another school? I like running independently because coaches usually want to race you every Saturday. I like to use my Saturdays to reap the benefits of a long run. If you want to talk more about this I'll leave my email. I can get on in the evening or during my study hall.

Have you considered occasionally training with UoArk?
I can train with University of Arkansas as a high schooler?

as his friend who was coaching him during the 100 mile week, I can say it did not work out for him. He brought his 5k down by a lot(1627) but said it was too hard and didn't like the fact that he doesn't get paid for it.
So he quit running altogether. Now he wants to be a marine. And he parties and gets drunk and wasted a lot.

Why were YOU of all people coaching him? You probably told him to stop doing doubles and a bunch of other stupid shit.
This is way to much, If you are running this now how are you gonna progress your junior and senior year? 110 mpw? 120 mpw? faster paces?
80 mpw should be max at your age and not really necessary, 60 mile weeks will get you to where u want to be by your senior year HS
Doesn't get paid for it? He was in HS, so I would have thought it was not even a factor. So either the OP was a troll or you are. In any case, good topic to talk about but sad that it seems people are still sitting on their butts and not running. Only way to get better is run more (and apply the right amount of rest). he did that for a time. He got gradually more and more fed up with running so just decided to run less but everything absurdly fast. He ended up getting his 5k to 1627 on a solo time trial on a muddy xc course. Just wish I had his talent lol
