When we have to return to 1964 and Mike Larrabee to find a white American winning the Olympic 400 yes it's news. Noticing the realities around you is not racism, it's called "realism".....big difference!
The first white sprinter to win a medal in 50 years? Kid you've got a lot to learn about track and field. What about Kostas Kenteris, what about Roger Black, what about Valeriy Borzov, what about Pietro Mennea, what about Alan Wells, Vicktor Markin, Armin Hary, Bobby Morrow? To name a few.
Stop being so brainwashed. Why is it that the majority, the vast majority of great high jumpers are white, yet in this country pop culture tells you that white men can't jump? Why is it that the majority of the great triple jumpers in the world are white? Why are the vast majority of great long jumpers black? Yet how do you explain Sotomayor, or Robert Emiyan? Why do so many morons lobby for Wariner to move up to the 800m when he is the best long sprinter in the world?
Are certain ethnic groups predisposed to having exceptional genetic outliers several omegas out on a normal distribution? Probably. Does that make any difference to me when I admire the performance of Wariner, or Lagat, or Liu Xiang? None at all. Are Indians genetically inferior, or is their lack of showing in athletics more a consequence of history, culture, and economy.
In sum, the answer to all of the above questions is to exercise your brain as well as your body. Think for yourself. Question the answers, then question the questions!

You all I am Jeremy and its not a big deal at all! Almost all the people I race with are black and they are some of my best buds. And when you are out running in full body spandex i think the last thing people notice is my ethnicity if you get what im talking a bout.

Theres not many white guys that want to run the 100 fast or else they'd be running it fast. Just like theres not many black guys that want to swim for 4 minutes in a pool. I could go on and on. And what about Dirk Nowitzki 50 DAM points son, Kobe only did that with OT and still lost. Its all about desire man, how bad you want something to happen. And Dirk Nowitzki could rape and kill Kobe in about 4 seconds and then eat him.

Actually, YOU making an issue of it is borderline racist in an overly sensitive reverse-racist manner. Stating that a white man won the Olympic Gold in the 400m is a "racial" observation. However, the fact that he was/is young and ran such a fast time in the Olympic final, progressed so fast over the course of the season, had the same coach and alma mater as the world record holder does add to the fervor over his feat as does the fact that he is white.
Now, if someone was to comment that "Some skinny little honky, whitey, peckerwood, or cracker won the Olympic 400m" you would have a racist comment.

At least someones on my side. All I want to know is why make a deal at all about ethnicity? I mean noone i race with ever talks about ethnicity. We only make fun of people who do!
Jeremy - welcome to Letsrun. The one question that everyone wants to know is, how fast can you run an 800 in?
One reason I think most people make a big deal out of it is because of the media. I was watching a TV Special about "Black Athletes in American" several years ago and one of the questions they asked some the black athletes was "did they think they where faster at running and jumping then whites"? Most of the black athletes agreed that if a white was guarding them in basketball, running for a pass in football, or running springs in track that they would win contest based on color!
I believe there was sprinter on the same program a guy name "Little" (200 meter runner) and he was a white guy that said he felt bad for a lot of the blacks because he could beat most of them and it would be a embarrassment to them, so many times during the races the black runner he would pass would pretent to be hurt because they could not face the fact that a "white guy" beat him. But he also stated after a while it was no longer factor once the black sprinter realized he was just a fast runner and they got over the skin color thing.
It seemed to be that most blacks interviewed in that program believe they where better at whites in most athletic events and if a white could be beat them there was a lot of peer pressure from the black community for better results and another reason act hurt if they could not over come this.
I think there is some truth to this. just another view
I predict we are about 2 generations away from not even mentioning skin color. ITs less and less of a deal. It might even take less, like 30 years. I'm basing this on a geration being 20 years. THere are lots of racist white people but it is not exclusively a white phenomenon. I once had an east indian buddy tell me his dad was one of the most racist persons he ever met! Its going away, everything takes longer than it should.
A genetist would say that all humans are essentially 99.something% the same. Skin colour is genetically as signifcant as being able to curl your tongue or have detached ear lobes. (grade 11 biology was a long time ago)
Kevin Little was much better than you have given credit for. His best time might be around 250th but that is accounting for other athletes running multiple times faster than him. If you rank individual athletes he is ranked =30th using the continuous method or =60th using the discontinuous method. Discontinuous method is the same used for track results 1st = gold, =2 both get silver, next place is 4th not third. Continuous method, next place is 3rd not 4th. Choose your poison.
Is Wariner gay? Not that it matters since a high percentage of sprinters are gay.
Yea dude because im a white sprinter and i wear a track suit commando style, and hug my other track mates when we go to the olympics, i must be gay right? Well alot of people wear track suits and you know what im wearing one right now so why dont you go jack off to that, fag.
