Maybe, but that's focusing on the side event in cycling. Also, it implies that runners would favor a less versatile, more expensive (to be competitive), time trial bike over a simple road bike for road riding. And that's ignoring the rise in gravel bikes/gravel riding and racing that, on the competitive side, is more like running in terms of accessibility of racing.
