Bottom line did you think Flanagan would have placed higher w a different strategy or training? I personally don't. I think she wasted her best 10k years on the marathon and that given where she's at now, the strategy today at least strung out the field.
She is perfect! Genetics win in the end. Look at Shalane, Hasay and good grief Kastor. They beat and starve themselves into skeletons and just look so weak. TD looks like she never misses a meal. No bones and she looks 15! Running doesn't stress her body. She didn't even look winded. Kastor said she can't run another step and Shalane was on all 4s on the track.
Wish Shalane was still with Cook! Speed kills!
Great run by Niiya. A lot of courage, and a personal best in very humid conditions.

At the '12 Trials Amy Hastings beats Shalane Flanagan.
At the '13 Moscow World Championships today Flanagan (8th in 31:34.83) laps Hastings (14th in 32:51.19).
So, what's going on here? Weather conditions? Sure it was humid ...but it was humid for everyone; top four all ran 30:47 or lower.
Flanagan is a year older but ran a credible race. Has Hastings peaked out? Hasay ran 32:17 for 12th.
40 year old Deena Kastor was our top Marathoner at WC? !!
This was supposed to be a good WC team. What does the future hold for Women 10000 & Marathon? Doesn't look bright at this point.
Is Paula Radcliffe one of the commentators? If so, she sure does clean up well. She's pretty good looking.

Pretty sure the idea was for Hasay to just stay with the lead pack as long as possible and gain experience running in a world championships. She knew there was no chance of competing for a win at this point in her career. Also, Salazar is a master at knowing what splits his runners need to hit to run their best times so there is no way he would have her go out at 5 minute pace to start when her pr is 5:06 pace. I think they accomplished what they wanted to in this race.
It's also not a bad idea to go out a little too fast every so often to make sure you are pacing properly when you want to.

The Japanese girl, Hitomi Niya, is only 25 years old.
She ran the 5,000m in 15:28 -- in HIGH SCHOOL.
She'll get better, much better, if she stays healthy.
Hastings beat Flanagan in the 10,000 at the 2012 because Flanagan was training through for the Olympics marathon --which Hastings had not qualified for. At no time in history was Hastings a better 10,000-meter runner than Flanagan.

It took 30 minutes for the nbc announcers to mention hasay. What the hell is wrong with them? Did any of those other girls even matter? It should have been 100% coverage of hasay.
