http://www.letsrun.com/forum/flat_read.php?thread=4075208canova :
canova is stating broadly that if you are running target pace for part/all of the race
( 55.0 pace which if held on as well as a non-hicham talent coud expect, woud give 3'27 ), then having unenforced slowing, which is almost 100% due to poor pacing, which in this case is to low-58 from expected 55, which is 3s of "lost" time from target pace
the elite can do little about it, uness they want to take the lead immediately & overtake the pacer, losing any drafting, but none have ever done it at 400m in
renato is wrong in that in that 10k that all that 8s slowing was completely lost
some of it can be made up in remaining reduced race distance left, but not all - maybe 3 or 4s of that 8s is permanently lost from early in a 10k & perhaps upto 1s permanently lost out of the 3s early in a 1500, after flattening splits
this is a consideration after flattening splits
not really quantifiable
from canova, it woud offer asbel a low/mid-3'27 after flattening splits
