Suspicious Chinese Swimmer

She couldn't possibly be as clean as Paula Radcliffe.

Shobukhova - the 6:36 (3:00/km) finish in Chicago was in a race where she was 10 minutes 5.5% of the 217 WR. That would be in Ye finished in 58 for a total time of 4:43.

She finished as fast a man in a WR. That would be like a woman finishing a 3:53 in 39. Nobody would believe that, but that is what just happened, and there are apologists trying to explain this away.

I wonder if ventolin is able to answer somebody without using words like: "moron", "idiot", "bullshit", "shit" etc.

Can someone shed some light on the doping control process? As a medalist she will automatically be tested, correct? Can WADA specifically target athletes they perceive to have suspicious performances? Has she been participating in the biological passport system? Or will her baseline for the passport system come from these games?

They announced that samples will be stored and retested in the future as new tests are introduced, right?

I'm in favor of reserving judgment until she tests positive. Innocent until proven guilty. But I also don't have much faith in the testing systems to catch all dopers.

How come the western press hasn't mentioned 15 yr old Lithuanian swimmer Ruta Meilutyte and PEDs? Her time in the semis was a european record. She blew her PB time away. It's almost the exact same thing as the Chinese swimmer. Yet one gets accused and one doesn't. That's crap. 15 and 16 yr old breakout stars in swimming happen all the time! Are we going to accuse one of our own Hannah Franklin? This Chinese swimmer swam a great race, let's give her the benefit of the doubt.

Someone mentioned it a few posts above yours. And it's Missy Franklin, not Hannah.

decent point, but did Meilutyte swim as fast as a male gold medalist her last 100m? Probably not. And dies LTU have a long history of doping in women's swimming? Probably not.

But really, I am sure she is being looked at with an arched eyebrow in swimmingland.

The same could be said of Breeja Larson of the US. At the Trials, she beats Soni (textile WR holder) and and is "suddenly" going 105s. She has never been ranked in the top 100 in the 100m breast (100th in the world in 2011 was 109.6). Her drop could be perceived as even greater than Meilutyte's.

Of course, there are reasons for he rankings, but the media typically doesn't do much digging into that.

yes, doping control does target specific athletes based on performance improvement:

Arne Ljungqvist, the chairman of the International Olympic Committee's medical commission and a veteran anti-doping official:

"There are different reasons as to why we target certain athletes or a certain group of athletes," he said. Of course should a sudden rise in performance occur in a particular person, we could regard that possibly as a reason to do it, but I would rather say that it is tragic if that should be the primary reason for doing a testing."

if he isn't clueless, then why did he ask about lagat being the flag bearer for kenya? that screams clueless to me as he isn't a kenyan citizen and hasn't been for years.

do you have her splits and did she outsplit any of the fastest men in the world on them? if she did, then she, too, should be questioned. if not, then your example is silly and a waste of time. btw, 15 and 16 year old girls don't outsplit the fastest men in the world "all the time." get a clue.

Come on there should be a mountain of suspicion due to the long history of Chinese swimmers being busted for PEDs including a wolrd champion Chinese swimmer who was nbot allowed to come to London for testing positive recently.

She had a performance that was jaw dropping but she is also an athlete from a country who dopes their athletes to the gills.

Not saying the US doesn't have a doping problem but China had multiple athletes specifically swimmers test positive. It wan't just one or two swimmers but a large number of their swimmers tested postive in the late 80 and 90s and even into the 00s.
