When Alsal hits the mark he def hits the mark and when he misses it's usually a bad miss. Today was one of those misses. That was a moronic strategy. It's a race not a time trial and now what does he have to show for it? Ritz will now try and make the 5K team which he has NO SHOT at making. Rupp, Lagat and Lomong will smoke him. I guess he could try and run the 10K at Pre but we all know that he can't race that many races.

To answer your question, you couldnt really see him much during the live feed so I assume that he was just trying to hit his splits.

That's what I said! What a moronic strategy! With all ducks on the line, they want to just lean it in? Ritz might be watching from the couch if his body breaks down running another 10k, and the 5K, if he can in form he might make it, but even so, this is still a stupid strategy. You overshoot a qualification race, not just nip it.

Sorry, but that's not the way this group works. Al Sal would never allow Galen to deviate from his race plan to help another runner. Especially since the goal is to win while conserving as much energy for the 5K as possible. Rupp will not touch the lead until the final 800.

If Ritz wants the standard at the trials, he'll have to do his own work.

He qualified for the trials now in the 10k. This was his 1st track 10k in how long ? A little rest , some sharpening will put him in good form for the trials. If they don't dink around and sit and kick an standard could be had.

Moron..he doesn't need to run the 10 at PRE. He simply needs to run the standard at the trials. It will probably take an A standard effort anyway to make the team. BTW, he ran 13:14 at OXY in racing flats. I'd say he had a SHOT. Lamong can't even count.

I stand corrected , didnt do my homework.

He has the a standard for 10 for the trials , he now has the b standard for Oly games from his Hengelo race.

Stanford was his last 10K.

Why didn't Ritz run a standard time? Was it payback for AlSal telling him not to run overly quick?

what would be the point of him running the 5k at pre? why can't they let him run the 10k. at that level, it shouldn't be that hard to recover from a 27:40 10k, then run trials, what 2-3 weeks later?, ritz needs to man up and get shit done.
