Not true. The avg Fed salary is 86K. This includes white collar, professional employees who would make much more on the outside.
This 6 figure average that gets thrown out there is including compensation and benefits.

I agree 100% with you on W's Iraq disaster. As a veteran with very conservative political views, I was an outspoken critic of the invasions of Iraq & Afghanistan and I well remember the horde of GOP morons who shouted me down for 'not supporting the troops'. It was made all the more ridiculous by the fact that most of the GOP war-mongers never served in the military.
Yes, that is better, as there is a significant difference.
Almost all of those 500k are white collar professionals who should have advanced degrees. (at least a masters)

even if the advanced degree part is true - & I have my doubts.. - an advanced degree is not exactly what it used to be, particularly when your employer will pay the tuition & pay you $100k+ while you're knocking out some online degree from Phoenix University..
