I could see how one could argue that cutting teams at the bottom of the competitive pool in D-I like UD, but not replace them...then the teams that were slightly better now become the assholes. The CEO of GE did this and it worked. But he invested in new people afterwards.Lets look at regionals this past year, for instance... 1 Princeton 53 4 5 9 16 19 2 Villanova 61 7 10 12 15 17 3 Georgetown 78 1 11 18 23 25 4 Penn State 99 2 3 26 28 40 5 Navy 183 6 34 35 45 63 6 Penn 199 20 38 43 44 54 7 American 217 21 27 30 62 77 8 Duquesne 263 33 47 53 61 69 9 La Salle 286 39 48 60 68 71 10 Maryland 321 8 36 46 111 120 11 Delaware 336 24 58 80 84 90 12 St. Joseph's (Pa ) 340 14 56 76 96 98 13 Umbc 347 41 59 72 81 94 14 Temple 390 31 66 75 108 110 15 Lehigh 408 13 73 95 104 123 If Delaware's the team that's unsalvagable, why not have everyone else they can manage to beat with shit talent cut as well (and invest in football). Kill Lehigh, UMBC, St Joes, and Temple.Then 5 years from now, after LaSalle and Maryland don't do anything productive, throw them out. Quigley was a fluke anyway. 10 years down the road, toss out Duquesne & American because they've been the assholes of their region for so long...and so on. Screw Hallinan. With your logic, in 20 years, after they've cut all shit programs, if you're good at running, your options will be oregon and oklahoma. who the hell cares if you actually want to go to a school that actually has a good academic program and also run.

Ok, why is this a big deal? While coach Fischer is one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet, he is one of the worst coaches in the world. He gets decent talent and then turns them into crap. Really. Maybe now the decent runners on the team will decide to transfer to a better running school and get coached by a real coach. Think about it UD is a DI school and it's still a big deal if someone breaks 15:00 at that school. What's really sad is that a terrible coach like Fischer has been able to stay on as coach for so many years. And please don't tell me how great Mike D was. Mike ran well in spite of Fischer. Imagine what he could have run with a real coach. Why do so many UD runners end up running so well post collegiately? While it sucks that the programs were cut, I just hope that it knocks some sense into the guys who are there now and gets them to run at better schools.
