Several people said something along the lines of: "Josh Cox isn't worth your time. Get a life!"

The reason this topic is worth my time (and this reason probably holds for some others) is that working your butt off to be able to distinguish yourself in our sport, no matter how slightly, is a source of pride. When someone violates the "rules of the game" by claiming a right to a time that hasn't been earned, it minimizes the accomplishment of those who have.

If Josh *implies* a 1:03-flat but only ran 1:04:01, then he's offending NOT ONLY guys who have run 1:03:00 to 1:04:00, BUT ALSO all guys (and girls) who play by the rules of engagement.

My PR is >2min slower than Josh's, but I'm no less entitled to call bullsh*t than a :59 guy or a 1:59 guy.

Cox has always tried to roll "above the law" and tries to shield himself with his publicity.

So glad im not the only one who thinks he is a Way over stated runner. Nothing wrong with running 1:06, but I dont care to have it on the front page of LetsRun. His publicity annoys the bgeepers out of me!

Sense of entitlement + touting over-ambitious/incorrect info = disrespect to those doing the same work with their mouths shut

Can someone help me understand why he is claiming to be the American Record holder in the 50K when his name is NOT listed here?

I think it's great you all spend so much time debating Josh Cox. I bet you watched every episode of the bachelor too. Also, I bet you all are friends with him on facebook and twitter too. Just waiting for something to pounce on and start a subject on the famous letsrun.com message board. So much hate for the guy. Maybe one time you should actually go talk to him at the next expo you see him at. Ask him some questions. You might be surprised the guy is really nice and not anything like the way you guys percieve him as.

So because he's a nice guy we should just overlook the fact that he exaggerates his personal records? because he was on the bachelor we shouldn't point out that he's advertises a 10-mile pr which supposedly was done in a workout? because he twitters we can't expose his delusion when he says he plans to run 62-63 minutes for the half marathon in san antonio and then runs 66:44?

I couldn't care less if he was a mean guy, a nice guy, or if he was boring...it's irrelevant.

Sorry man, but your exaggerated assumptions aren't going to shift the weight here. Yeah, I believe Josh is truly a nice guy, but the fact remains: he chases publicity and talks up his abilities.

No, I and most of the other people on this thread haven't seen him on the bachelor, aren't friends with him on facebook, and I don't have a twitter account. Nice try, but if you want the Cox mud slinging to stop, quit posting crap like this trying to defend him and let the issue die. You're not going to guilt trip and point-figures your way out of this one, muchacho.

Brian Ball, stop posting on letsrun. You've run a 1:05 on a legit course, you don't need to idolize Josh anymore. Really, why are you defending this chump? We're not questioning whether or not JC is nice and smiles alot, we are - with good reason - questioning the integrity of his PRs.
