I was very impressed how he went for it. No concerns about running too fast. He looked great the entire way.

I was also impressed by the women's winner. She held off the 2nd place man the last few miles. Awesome race today.

I thought I read that since he started with the masses in the delayed start, after the elites started, that the organizers tried to say he didn't qualify for the prize money...which is a crock, since he ran the whole race too.

No, they paid him. Heard it from the horse's mouth.

that was a lawsuit (and horrible publicity) just waiting to happen, if they didn't pay him.

they weren't neck in neck or battling one on one. behind Korir most of the guys were slowing down, sort of a mini 'hitting the wall' due to the 206 pace they were on the first part of the race and the fact that the last half and finish was slightly uphill.

Hopefully one will be posted. When the two lead men caught the two lead women at about 1:59 something interesting happened. The second place man and woman fell off the pace. The lead woman picked it up. I think she managed to increase the gap over the number two man slightly over the last 10 minutes of the race.

Are they kidding??? Of course Wesley Korir is the real deal. LA isn't exactly altitude. Not only that, the humidity here is tropical.

I really hope that is a joke.

Not one woman from Southern California finished under 3 hours. A 12 year is listed under 3 hours but looking at her splits and the fact that she is 12 makes me believe she didn't really break 3 hours.

I guess locals feared the event having a new race owner or the word didn't spread that Devine is no longer involved or the number of marathons in Southern California spreads the talent pool thin.

it is possible, mary decker ran a 3:10 marathon on the very hilly palos verdes course at age 12, and wesley paul ran under 3 hours at the new york city marathon at age 9.

the announcer said they had 3 thousand from the group students run LA who trained for and ran todays marathon, when you have 3 thousand well trained kids some have to produce performances that would be excellent for their age.

About 20 years ago Carrie Garritson, age 11, ran the L.A. marathon in 2:49.

From the initial results, only 9 or 10 women broke 3 hours. Not much depth there.

It is not only that she is 12, her recorded splits look screwed up

Those cases actually imply that those guys are exceptional talents rather than untalented.

Have to agree with you. Coverage sucked so much, I ended up watching NICK with my kids. To much silence and what does Fred Roggin knows about Running. They even had the weather man out in the course. you got to be kidding me right.
