The official standing behind the start is holding a flag. Due to the quality of the video I can't tell what direction it is blowing but the wind seems to be straightening it out.

It wasn't between 1984 and 1988 that she changed. It was between 1988 and 1989 - and it was a huge change. Definitely PEDS.

You must explain why the others at Indianapolis did not also run at least 0.2 seconds faster than one or two weeks before. With or without PEDs, they should have run faster.

If a tailwind was a factor, her loose, bulky hair certainly would help to some degree.

Her technique became such that she held her momentum near top speed, without redlining, over more 10 meter sections than her peers.

FloJo had a history of seizures from a young age. We should remember that she overcame that, but ultimately a seizure killed her.

Seizures are side effects of roid and PED usage. Lord knows what she was taking.

If she already had epilepsy, the roids could have exacerbated her condition leading to a massive seizure in her sleep.

There is NO evidence that Flojo was on drugs. The wind gauge in Indianapolis is a different matter.

there's alot of fishy records and medals. rupp, jeter, solinsky, bolt, ryun, bannister, seb coe, paula, flojo, ... everytime symmonds runs everyone in the satnds starts bringing up PEDs. but records sell tickets and when meet directors have one they use it to bolster ad sales. that's why golden league meets always tried to have zero throwing events. i.e. ad revenue dries up after a positive test. it was ugly for zurich after boulami tested positive.

Did I miss something?

We can only speculate what's causing Alberto Salazar's heart problems, Ritenhein's physical ailments, or what caused Solinkski/DiCrescenszo to drop out of Daegu after blood tests were announced. Who knows why Bolt & Mo Greene had a financial relationship with Heredia, maybe they share a WWII paraphenalia collection hobby? Only the Gods know the truth....

just for the record concerning the 1500m, 3000m and 10000m WRs, that one small meet in China was the national championships. also, the 3000m heats and 3000m final were not ran on the same day. as for the 10000m, seeing video footage of the race is just as easy as typing womens 10000m world record on youtube.

I have some strong opinions on this.

For one i see it as fact that FloJo was on a PED program. Almost all the telltale signs are there. but i see this as irrelevant when analysing her performance. She as clearly (to me) trained to a superior level than anyone else. The running technique she displayed, especially late race, is about the best you can find anywhere. Masterful development i see there. Without PEDs she would have still been as good as has been done, just not quite so fast.

Regarding the wind. How is there confusion on this aspect. During the actual race you can see the flags in the background horizontal to the ground. Maybe they were stiff flags :p

Compare her voice in the interview right after the WR in 1988 to her interview with Charlie Rose in 1996. She sound more natural in 1996.

Look up female bodybuilders in youtube and hear them speak. Also listen to Carmelita Jeter.

To me the voice is a big give away whether a female is taking some form of anabolic steroid.

i recall her saying that one of the major difference in her training compared to other sprinters during the time was that she was including distance runs into her training to what extent I do not know.

The way Symonnds apes is a sure sign of steroids in a man. He didn't act that way in college. But now he has that Incredible Hulk look about him. Dwayne Chambers still apes like he's an MMA/UFC entertainer too which adds more suspicion.

I am a CFD (computational fluid dynamics) engineer and I have analyzed flows inside a stadium before. Putting one dinky little anemometer next to the track, with a bunch of guys standing in front of it and calling it a representative wind measurement is deeply upsetting to my inner engineer. It's like when a guy starts a post on letsrun saying "18:30 5k, predict my marathon time!". Here is a suggestion: use a laser Doppler anemometer pointed directly down the center of the track at about 8 ft off the ground, if the race-average Doppler measurement is below your 2.0 m/s then you can be pretty certain it is legit. If Flojo's record is broken during my lifetime, unfortunately I believe it will be under equally upsetting circumstances.

a reason why less women are interested in the pure sprints than before? (a guess based on results from club levels up over the years). If this was true it's possibly the worst negative for me.

The guy that did that i worked with many moons ago. At the time he showed us the biomechanical analysis footage which was shot at ground level horizontally. I tried to find it just now and couldn't. Maybe someone else? Anyway, it shows the flags on the flagpoles across the other side of the track pretty much streaming sideways. If that footage can't be found then check out the starters assistant white flag in the standard youtube version off TV. Just after the gun goes and whilst they accelerate away, that white flag he is holding is popping around like nothing else.

You can find the last lap on youtube but not the full race. Therefore, there is a lot of speculation that it was only 24 laps. Or that each lap is a bit short, say 390m or so. After all, that track got destroyed.

No one has produced a full video of Wang's 10,000 that I have heard of.

We have only seen clips of part of the race and the finish.

I have not sene a full video of one of four seperate races that produced world records that week in China.

We saw Flojo's 10.49 and the PR's of the others in the field for that QUARTER final race.

We also saw a lot of wind-aided events that day along with those two 0.0 wind races.
