The sun is pretty big. The nuclear fusion reactions occur deep inside the core and by the time they get to the 'surface' of the Sun things are pretty tame.
So, yeah, it's relatively cold at the surface. However, it's also almost empty space at that point, and so the property value may not be that great. (Then again, the element lead is also mostly empty space... but you know what I mean. Actually, empty space isn't that empty, it's really complicated stuff, according to quantum field theory... hrm, where was I again?)
