The entire Godfather series, Casablanca and Citizen Kane are the only three which deserve to be on the original list. However, beyond any doubt the gratest movie of all time is Lawrence of Arabia. Other Top 10s would include Chariots of Fire, Patton, Triumph of the Will, Olympia (a pair of Leni Reifenstahl classics...you do not have to agree with their message to recognize them as great cinema)....moving on, best comedy list would definitely include Trading Places, best Bond films, Casino Royale and From Russia with Love, best action movie; The Bourne Series, and the best (or perhaps it would be better labeled as the most powerful) film of the last five years; Munich.
Lawrence of Arabia, very good choice. I would agree the best ever on many levels. I see alot of movies mentioned that are very good but could not be considered seriously among the greatest ever. One movie that was pretty amazing that i have not seen listed is FAILSAFE. If you grew up during the cold war it was a movie you saw many times and every time, it was still a great movie. The Grapes of Wrath of the Cold war generation. Not many people mentioned Grapes of Wrath either, that was cutting edge cinema at the time, very risky movie.
It's wonderful that Lawrence is being noticed by so many of you.

Fail-safe is pretty awesome, but not exactly a perfect movie. I found it a little too didactic and not terribly subtle. It's tough since it's pretty much a mirror-image of Dr. Strangelove, which was incredibly well acted, written, and produced. The B-52s in Dr. Strangelove were uncannily accurate while Fail-Safe relied on stock footage of B-58s and a few other planes to be the "Vindicator" bomber. there were a few other mistakes that just keep this movie from being a great, but it still has it's unique place I think. In my opinion, Fail-safe was tougher to do than Dr. Stangelove. A subject as hideous as MAD is more easily approached as a comedy. So a very good, almost great, and way too often overlooked film.
Last of the Mohicans - It has everything!! Romance, action, drama, heartbreak...how can you want to watch anything else!?!
I forgot to mention its also got an amazing soundtrack.

So the three greatest movies of all time are by the same director? I will admit the latter two are innovative masterpieces of the 1990s, and Inglorious Basterds was probably the most intense movie of the 21st century until Whiplash came out.
I love seeing old movies in the theater. Of the ones mentioned so far, I’ve seen Lawrence of Arabia (in 70mm), 2001 (in 70mm and another time in IMAX), The Godfather, and Wizard of Oz in the theater. I highly recommend to everyone to support their local theaters playing classics.

Grapes of Wrath is a fantastic film (and book!). The cinematographer went on to make Citizen Kane next, with his famous deep-focus shots.
Citizen Kane is wonderfully innovative, but I just don’t like it quite as much compared to others in the period such as Double Indemnity, although I recognize its technical and artistic merits.

Personal: 12 Monkeys for the sympathetic lead role (“I’m supposed to be gathering information”) and a brilliant adaptation of the French short film.
Acting: “JFK” (the late Canadian John Candy in his only dramatic role {with a Southern accent}; Tommy Lee Jones as a gay businessman; Brian Murray as an assassin; everyone really).
Jim Garrison playing his nemesis Earl Warren. Look up the cast sometime, iconic comedians play the heavies, it’s unreal!
