Let's see Jane now 7th all time on US 10,000 list and 10th on 5000 list, but prevailing opinion here is that she is not yet fast enough to be a full time pro runner.🤔
Yes, the “Superior” list complete with “But if”. The only thing that can be analyzed are finishing times and Hedengren is the new collegiate record holder in the 10000m.
If 2024 Valby raced 2026 Hedengren, Jane would win.
BS. Valby could have run faster if she had help like Hedengren did.
Hedengren has never beaten a healthy Lemngole. Valby beat Lemngole routinely.
I believe Hedengren is in 30:30 shape and was absolutely not pushed to her limit tonight.
Nah. I was there. Jane was 100% pushed to her limit by Kosgei. Kosgei led at the bell, and Jane and she absolutely threw down on the back stretch. They were running side by side and from across the field (I was at finish line) it looked like they were fully sprinting from 300. Jane pulled away on the turn to bring it home. It wasn't at all like Jane paced Kosgei either, as Kosgei was lead ingfor 9-10 laps total, including the last 3. Plus having Kosgei there at all was obviously huge.
When they finished, Jane looked a little wobbly but fine. Meanwhile, Kosgei collapsed into Jane's arms when Jane went over for a hug. Both were spent.
Also, weather was perfect. No wind at all. None. I don't now if I've ever seen it that still at Stanford, and Stanford is famous for not having wind during the night races. Temp was 60F.
Why don't you ask coach Taylor? I was there too! Jane is in 30:30 shape. Do you think her intention was breaking Parker's record, considering this was her FIRST 10k of her life? And at 19 years old to boot? It was like a training run the first 5 miles or so, with Kosgei and her trading off, then Jane threw a fast last mile, with a 66 last lap. With pacers and the intent on approaching 30:30, she can attain that right now.

I remember the going pro debate as being greed verses getting an education. I believe she’ll be capable this year of being in the top 5 in both lists, but I don’t think she’ll run another 10000m

I don't think anyone is saying she is not fast enough. But some are questioning if the timing is right when everything seems to be working for her in her present situation.
Sydney and Mu both spent a year in the NCAA when they were even more dominant. We have seen many times how the wrong training environment can derail a runner's progress.
And she is not in a situation like Cooper L where running in HS meets would be a complete joke. People just need to chill about Jane going pro and put some trust in her coach and her own sense of knowing when the time is right.

Valby > Lemngole > Hedengren
That’s pretty lame. Lemngole is not a constant and she’s improved significantly since 2024.
This debate over who’s better between Valby and Hendengren, is only temporary. It’s very like Hendengren will be sub-30:00 by the time she leaves BYU and the 50 second gap between her and Valby’s college times will not be explained away by Valby having had to lap a bunch of runners.

Not at all. It was a great run by Hedengren. But it was not nearly as impressive as what Valby did two years ago. Hedengren was actually in 2nd place with a lap to go. The pacer for Valby dropped out at 5000 in 15:30 and she then soloed a 15:20 and began to lap the field by 5100 meters.
Valby didn’t have to pass anyone. Hedengren did. Hedengren had no pacemaker and led more of the race than Valby did. Advantage Hedengren.
Would love to see a 10k with both of them running this outdoor season.

She’ll never leave Provo and her running situation will not change when she turns pro. She’ll even have the same coach.
Jane broke Parker Valby’s last standing collegiate record. As a freshmen, she’s the real deal.
Good catch!!
Recall 2 years back, after PV's tear thru the collegiate record books, many were wondering how many years (decades?) it would take for her CRs to be broken.
As it so happened, Doris Lemngole broke Parker's indoor 5000 record less than a year later.
Now, less than two years later, they're all gone.
This needs to keep happening. What each woman accomplished was great in its time, but the fact remains that American women are not all that competitive on the world stage. That seems to be improving a little. The records continuing to fall in the NCAA might be a good sign that US women are striving for a higher ceiling. As much criticism as there has been of international recruiting, maybe having those athletes in the mix is a part if the bar rising on the women’s side.
I'd love to know her value in direct payment from the university, (House Settlement) if they want to keep her from going pro? I'm not sure they could or would spend enough if she wants to leave after one year, but I would like to know what that offer or the negotiation could look like.

Rather than not all that competitive on the world stage, they’re not competitive at all and I don’t think there is someone running currently that will ever challenge for a medal. As another poster pointed out, Jane’s pace last night wasn’t much faster than that for the Marathon WR. To have a chance at a medal, a runner would need at least 3:55 capability in the 1500m.
Having said that, It’s enjoyable to compare Hedengren to other runners and especially to Valby. There’s no reason to ruin the fun by bringing the East-Africans into the discussion.

No, people need to stop being sexist and acknowledge Jane needs to go pro because NCAA is a joke. She needs to follow the path of Battocletti.

Even though I have said that her going pro now makes no sense, I wouldn't be that pessimistic about her chances of getting a medal at a global championship at some point. But she still has good competition in college races and there's absolutely no need to rush.
Kelati is probably still better. Jane is fast closing the gap though.
I'm not sure of that. JHs concern would be those who can sit on her and kick. Other than Houlihan...who I have my doubts would contest this event beyond what we just saw....there isn't that type who appears in any type of shape to go with JH other than Kelati who JH may be quicker at the end.
33:00 is not a good time. It’s comparable to a guy running about 30:00.
This must be a rage bait, 33:00 is so far ahead of 30:00 for men.
IAAF Scoring Tables has 33:00 at 1087 for women and 954 points for 30:00 for men.
1087 is about 28:30 for men.
You can argue about how accurate scoring tables are (frequency of event competition and all), but it's not a 90 second difference.
33:00 is equivalent to 28:30 for men? If you compare WRs for men and women, the difference is about 30 seconds per mile and not 45 seconds. There is also far more depth on the men’s side. In last year’s NCAA championships, 30:00 was was place.
