Putting all the ridiculous ShoeTube and influencer hype aside, the EVO SL is a genuinely fantastic shoe that can do it. According to my logs, I’ve worn out 125 pairs of shoes in my 15-year career, and the EVOs or the Superblast 3 are likely the best.
As many other posters have noted, it’s hard to overstate how magical those first few runs and races in the OG 4%s or 4% Flyknits were back in 2017-2018.
Nike Streakfly 2
Asics Epirus where super comfortable.
Nike Terra TC
Easy Jordan 11s
The best running shoes of all time are any shoe any runner last wore, or is wearing running right now, where they are striding along free and easy, feeling good, and the runner does not notice the shoes.
The best shoes are the ones that essentially disappear on your last best run. So much so that you may not remember what kind of shoes they are.

Nike Terra TC
The first running shoe with a compression molded EVA midsole. This manufacturing process unlocked the potential to provide superior durability and energy return than traditional EVA midsoles.
I had commented earlier in the thread about the Epirus and Nike Eagle/American Eagle, but I think that the criteria one of the other posters mentioned, shoes that completely changed the game, is a worthy one.
Nike owns a lot of those: The waffle racer, Terra TC as first compression molded eva, etc. When we look back, the Jasari spikes from '96 might be seen as revolutionary, but the OG Next 4% shoes will be seen as massive game changers, like the the introduction of the waffle racers - we are already have a line drawn in the sand for "before supershoes (i.e., before the Next %" and "after supershoes". Having started running in 1978, I never ran in the early '70's adidas gazelles, so it is with runners today who never had to fight through some pretty crappy early '90's shoes versus what is readily available today.

Although it’s been over 40 years, I recall the Nike Terra TC being more comfortable than any other shoe I had ever worn and nothing came close after it was discontinued.
only good shoe they ever made wrote:
Nike waffle racer was the best running shoe. Training, racing, whatever. Just a basic shoe with no fat pillow for you to foolishly heel strike onto.
Is that the same as the Zoom Waffle from the mid 90s?
