Henry, what are your plans for the future? :) Apart from setting new age class world records, that is. Do you (are you) coaching?
Oh, and your training philosophy in 100 words or less, please!
Cheers

I'm planning to keep coaching professional athletes.I have training camp here called ISI you can check my website
and another training camp in Kiptaragon village where I was born in Kenya.I'm also waiting for my publishing company in Indiana,Indianapolis to let me know the things they need from me to complete the book and when is the book will be out.I have a list of training camp clinics line up starting next month for the rest of this year.
Henry
Henry,
Do you feel it is better to live and train at altitude?
It will be interesting to read your book.
Man this is cool, just casually chatting with one of the greatest runners ever. I think it's awesome that you're getting back into running for yourself, and I hope you enjoy it and grab a few of those records while you're at it.
Henry, nice job on your training, going by minutes rather than miles makes sense and as I take a slow come back from various set backs your sensible approach has been resonating in my ears.... I used to love some of the trails off Tramway, I wonder if that area is very built up with new homes now, they were doing a lot of building right as I left Albuquerque in 95. Hope you had a good day.....

Sarah,
This place is ever changing if you left here 11 years ago,Oh the albuquerque city has changed alot.If you try to come here now,you probably need someone to take you around because you will get lost it is becoming a New York city too many traffics.I decided to live right by the edge of the copper hill. I can't keep starting my car and running takes a while for my knees to heat up.All I have to do is just get up walk and run up to the mountains and disappear into the hills.I feel good today,I think by dropping few lbs in the last two days makes different in the world. The 12 day with 202lbs.I think too much weight is a problem to me. The lesser weigh I have, the mind and the body becomes stronger.
Henry
Henry -- all respect to you, man. One of the greatest ever.
May I ask: Do you know Duncan Macdonald? An old college classmate of mine. He's 56, I believe, and recently ran in the low 18 minutes for 5K, an American age-group record. I thought of him because I believe he once held the American masters record in the mile for over 40 years. A very talented guy -- first American under 13:20 in the 5K, breaking Steve Prefontaine\'s record.
What is the record you\'re trying to surpass over the one-mile distance?
Yes Henry, that makes perfect sense. Keep busy with the English and internet and running! I will look for your book when I get back to Canada later this year.Do you ever think about going back to Kenya? Have a good run today.Matt

Matt,
I trade in with another addiction of school work. I had to find the challenging subject for me,which is English. The toughtest study in learning in college was English.I took a brave face when I came to New Mexico. And I say I want to major in literature in graduate school.I was able to write my book.I believe it is a good addiction and another good addiction is physiological-fitness. I'm busy and it makes me not to think about a bottle of budweist, I believe it was my favourite drink. With my three personalities in life one becomes busy on them.I don't remember anymore, perhaps you have sen me now I'm all the time on the internet. If you are in the other side, please ask another question.I hope I made sense to you or please edited.

Those who refuses to believe, I'm on letsrun.com running chat room,
check with me. My email
I talk with alot of people, since I made announcement of my comeback mile record for the age of 55.About two weeks now.

Henry: good luck with your comeback.
i want to tell you my own experience:
1) after running some month your achilles will be your weakest point. take care with fast track work.
2) running is great to overcome addiction. i took methampethamine for some years. not very much, but it was enough to wake the demons. i overcame the urge to take drugs thru running. it healed my soul (resp. brain).
good luck

Henry-
I have several pictures of you from a track meet at U of W in 1979. I will scan them and e-mail to you.
To starmiler: a low 18 5k for a 56 year old is not an American age group record. Guys in this age group are running in the 16's. Someone will tell you exactly what the world and US record is. World may be in the 15's but not sure.
Here's what I could find on the USATF site. IAAF and Masters T & F will have more comprehensive info. but I can't research now.

justme,
Duncan held the record for the 40+ mile.
Henry, I saw you in Edmonton in 1978, Commonwealth Games. You were awesome and inspired me too, thanks. Do you have good memories of Edmonton? Good Luck!!!

OK, I understand now. I misunderstood his post. My bad...
To JBA
Thanks jba,I can relate to you,no fast pace track now,I just jog for 136 minutes this morning and the weigh drops too fast,I fely dizzy I stop the running clock and walk for a while, this is after 26 minutes run.I met alot of people on Trammway Bike Path, I told them I'm walking today and after the dizzyness is gone I start running until I finished 136 minutes.I came back check my weigh it was 202lbs.I didn't feel like going to sauna, but I did after sauna,200lbs.My training now in the morning is slower than 75 year old lady.I'm basically crawling my feet on the floor.I knew something is happenning because I started breaking my sweats very early before I reach my time of breaking the sweats. My ice was melting, so to speak, before it reaches the right temperature in the body why is that?
Henry
To CDN master,
Yes! I do have memories of Edmonton Commonwealth-games in 1978.Infact one of my picture which I put on my website page 5 you can see if you want on my website
was taken when I was running steeplechase on my best skillful style going over the water jump other than that, I always have a wild jump when running steeplechase.I used that picture to autograph for people who needs my signature as a remainder and that it was the only major games for me with two Gold medals. As you know I never made it to Olympics. So Edmonton stays in my memories all the time. The next city to run a major road race in my master comeback will be Edmonton.
Henry
Hi Henry,
Welcome back to the running life. I pray that your enthusasium will carry you to your WILDEST DREAMS of the Masters MILE!
Oh! LA-LA!..we are in for a treat!
I can tell you a little bit about myself. I'm older and am also fighting my way back to the masters competitive level. After so many, many years away, it has taken me quite awhile to reach a level where I feel comfortably say I can now train. Funny, how the mind works. Memories, can carry us for a bit. Reality though is sometimes difficult to accept. Keep up the fighting spirit.
I would like to encourage you to stay with it, for all the downs there are tremendous uplifting moments that are truly the blessings for all the effort.
I feel absolutely wonderful to being able to get out the door and do a hill workout or repeat miles or a tempo run. It is worth the effort to re-educate the body, and to re-introduce the soul, spirit and mind to your being.
The beauty of running/training....ah! is that you can't lose..it's a win/win situation. As I'm sure you may very well know.
Keep the faith Henry> For faith is the confidence of what we hope for will actually happen. It's a delightful place to live.
Hold tight to the dream, Henry..hold tight!
BLessings to you,
In Joy,
Patti
Too much fruit juice can make you get light headed because it is mostly just pure sugar and not much else. Freshly made veggie juices are great though because they are loaded with enzymes and minerals to replenish your body. You can drink all of these that you want, run and then drink them again. A mixture of this is to fill the blender with greens like bok choy, celery, collards, or lettuce with some water and apple juice, blend this for a minute then drink it and this is much better than just fruit juice by itself.
