I was out there today and I genuinely think Sawe’s performance today is the greatest we’ve ever seen in the marathon.
The conditions were absolutely brutal. Through 10ish K it was OK as the sun was still low enough to provide shade cover, but there wasn’t much hiding after that. I could not believe my eyes when I saw his time after the race. I’ve never seen as many people going down and looking in a bad way. There were victims even before half way. Insanity

So you might actually be able to cleanly run 2:02 low.

Harry Styles ran an impressive even-split 2:59:13, six months after his 3:24:07 debut in Tokyo. Both warm races.
In the results he's listed as 'Sarandos Sted' today. Hopefully he was given permission to use an alias and won't get a DQ and ban for bib-swapping!

That's about the average day in berlin in the middle of september. What did you expect?

Actual question not a brag: I ran sub-3 today by negatively splitting (about 30 seconds). Fastest 5K was 35-40K. Did I leave a lot of time on the table or did I do this right?

I ran slower than my goal by about 3-4 min, by going out conservatively and picking up the pace ever so slightly over time. Walked the aid stations to get liquids in. HR was above my LTHR for the last 14+ miles so yes it was hot. Just wondering if I optimized the result, or ran too conservatively. If it helps...I cramped towards the end anyway as soon as I picked up the pace into the 6:20-6:30 range, but I did close the 26 to 26.45 mi on my Garmin at 6:06

So I don't know. Happy but maybe I should have run harder in the first half!

I'm not a Harry Styles fan (nothing against him, I'm just not familiar with his music), but an even split sub-3 in conditions like they had in Berlin today is honestly impressive. Certainly among the fastest celebrity runners. I see someone has already updated this wikipedia page:

If it happened now the sub 2 would be broken. Perfect conditions. Cold, crisp.

I think you did about your best. The cramping indicates you were about at your limit given the conditions. I’d generally say don’t walk the aid stations if you want to maximize your time but you might’ve needed it to keep that heart rate manageable.

I suppose there's always a chance you could have run 30-60 seconds faster, but probably an even greater chance that you could have run 15-20 minutes slower if you'd pushed it over the edge. Sounds like you played it just right.

looks legit. frank shorter can compete with super shoes and get podium, and not be beat by a woman. and the african, there will be a rono type talent that can do this.
