Kate Peters it seems. No room on roster for her any more? Bigger news, Bahiya El Arfaoui (2:01, 4:05) is said to be in the portal, I assume just waiting for a chance to go to OR or WA.
Thanks for catching! (...and how embarrassing on my part).
Yes, there are still those of us who prefer to distinguish between Providence and Princeton. Both fine institutions, but sadly, the Tigers don't have the good Jesuits...
Good analysis, but it’s missing a program injury factor. Such as BYU few injuries so 80% weighting. Oregon is an injury factory so 50% weighting.
I am willing to consider all applicable factors. What are you suggesting? Take out 50% of top OR runners? 20% of top BYU (and maybe all other teams) runners? Or what?
So Kate gets injured by Shalane and Steve (the ex husband) in high school, gets recruited to Oregon in a shady way, gets injured for 2 years straight by Shalane while at Oregon, and is called fat… so that is all Kate’s fault? Shalane nor Oregon have anything to do with that or all the other injuries going on around that team? Seems like a problem.
Not sure who blamed Kate in previous posts but anyone who followed her in HS knew she ran insane mileage. She tripled some days running before school on her lunch break at school then after with her team. This was widely known in the running community and she spent hours and hours on the Nike campus so anyone there knew what she was doing . So maybe she has some ownership to her devastating bone injury? Once she was at oregon agreed they should have handled her better. Who called her fat ever? A coach? Unacceptable if true.
I remember running into a video of Kate from HS where she was doing 3 X 2mi @ Fast LT workout.. well before her senior year. I remember wondering how it was going to turn out. Sucks that coaches get so greedy with young athletes who are developing physiologically at that age.

Something that is extremely hard for athletes and coaches to internalize is that just because a workout plan can make a kid faster, doesn’t mean you should do it.
Yes, upping a middle schooler’s mileage and workouts a lot can make them faster. Should they?
Yes, some freshmen can train like upperclassmen and run high end varsity or national times. Should they?
Yes, some HS kids can run progress from state level to national level by training like college kids. Should they?
Lastly, yes a HS girl can turn the corner to drop truly elite times by first building a huge engine and then getting an eating disorder so that for a brief window that huge engine is just moving a paper airplane around. Should they?

Anyone who knew anything about this kid also knew she pushed coaches to let her do more- transferred schools when they wouldn't let her. Parents also hold responsibility here. She ran a marathon at an astonishing young age. Around 8 I think. All adults failed
