Unfortunately he had to push from 2600 out and had to go wide on oblivious lapped runners. Costs him a few seconds but indoor record attempts at 5,000 typically will have less pacing.
Those lapped runners were clueless. The slowest guy stepped out to lane 2 but everyone else was "F-you Grant". Fools. They had clear notice it was a record attempt.

Seriously, much like every similar women's race.
....
Grant incredible indoor season definitely is a message to the world's 5000/10000m runners that he will be the favorite for GOLD come Outdoor World Championship. The athletes have been warned and now will time to try and narrow the gap.
If Grant remains healthy, I think he will SHATTER 💥 the outdoor AR in the 3000, 5000, and 10000m. His strength and endurance is just so much greater than than before and he didn't get to work on speed much indoors IT WAS ALMOST ALL STRENGTH/ENDURANCE.

10000m gold favorite yes, but in the 5000m there might be a strong competitor.
Grant Fisher stated after his 3000m WR that he was thinking AR but not the 3000m WR. I honestly think he was being modest and knew the WR was a possibility. For the 5000m he already stated in an interview he wants to see what he is capable of and push himself to his limit. He also stated he wants to pull several people to sub 13.
Grant obviously knows the WR is possible and he's going for it without publicly stating It's a WR attempt.
Your thoughts ..will Grant break the 5000m indoor WR and his time?
Yes, I think he breaks it.
I think he goes around 12:47 if he has to do the work by himself, or 12:44 (Yeah, I said it!) if he has a good pacer up front to smash the WR. The indoor 5k WR, like many of the indoor records is very weak. Only thing i'm sad about is Cole racing a 5k next week instead of this week. I would put a 100% bet on low 12:40s if he was also in this race.
I don't think he's gonna pull too many people to sub 13 though. When you have someone 10 seconds or so clear of the field, you don't really get to form that "train" that everyone gets to ride to a PR.
I think my glorious pookie bear king Yaseen breaks 13 though.
Well, I got everything except Yaseen running sub 13 correct
