Cedar Falls will only be the 3rd best team in the state in XC. That doesn't get you to NXN. First things first. This is.a track thread. Really excited to see what Nauman can do. He is the best all around runner the state has ever seen.
This won’t age well
Gilbert is capable of beating Cedar Falls at NXR as they return 5 of their top 6. But Dowling has a lot of holes to fill, and in fact, Cedar Falls already beat them last fall at state.
Ford Washburn 7:51.24 in Seattle today. Would have been the World Record up until 1962.
Ope not to bury the lede: Paityn Noe (also class of ‘23) ran 8:47.17 yesterday, currently 9th on the NCAA qualifying list.
2 Awesome times from both athletes. Yet, the "King of Iowa" hasn't ran a race since June 15, 2023. Crazy to see the progression of Ford and Paityn. They are representing us well.
Heidesch has dealt with injuries. But some of the best high school runners were Josh Evans and Ryan Schweizer. Yet, other guys like Matt Carmody, Gabe Sieperda, and Max Murphy ran faster in college.
Blue standard. It is a marketing gimmick that confuses most athletes and fans. And people need to read the fine print regarding 3 athletes per team. Imagine being on an elite team that has 3 kids hit the standard one week and Mike Jay tweets that those 3 are guaranteed. The next week, a teammate hits the standard and now one of the 1st three are out. The standards have been so far off the past few years, that more than 21 hit the standard. They should drop the silly gimmick.

So who gets to go? Don’t really understand you scenario. Doesn’t they way they do it get the fastest kids in the race?
