I only caught the final lap but wale was slowing down so much for all the hurdles. Does he always do that or was it just the fatigue? It seemed like he was losing so much time
A combo of fatigue and yeah his hurdling confidence is not the best.
Here is Nordas post-race. No gobblygook on lactic or blaming the organizers, but I really just can't buy the notion that he can't be any better than last in the first 200. If it really is the case, he needs to work on it:
"It went very quickly at the start, and then it just took off. I thought I was going to pass on the long side with a tailwind, and I know that I have more to go with at the end, but then I get shut in"
"I tried to sneak out as much as possible and get around, but it's so late along the way and people think alike. It will be a championship race, quite simply. Of course, it doesn't turn out the way I'd hoped, but I'll just take it second by second throughout the season."
"It's 4 out of 10 maybe, just below average. I would have liked to have done better tactically, but I am a tenacious type at the start and run as hard as I can and end up last, and then it becomes brutal to run against the wind," he said later.
Before the race in Doha, Nordås believed that he was the strongest on paper, but after sixth place he had to realize that he was not quite where he thought. - Everything is not theory, you know, there is also practice. It was smooth going as late as it did. There is always someone who is in shape early in the season

Seems like a fair post-mortem. Nordas looked ready to move with 300m to go, but he was in a terrible position and couldn't find the space to move up. He certainly had more to give but was just in terrible position going into the last lap. Positioning with 400m to go is vital in a 1500.

Yeah, I think his assessment was realistic. Blaming the wind is a tad off because that's worse for the leader (Tim et al). He drafted a large part of the race, so that shouldn't be an excuse as it's a factor for everyone. His biggest shortcoming was getting off the line terrible and never making a real move. It wasn't a strung-out race, so he could not rely on his 3:29/3:30 race playbook of just rolling in lane 2 the last 400 as guys fell back.
Even with 1.7+ wind 19.67 is very fast at this point. He definitely could challenge Lyles at the trials
This makes the Trials even more interesting. Lyles and Knighton can't slip up with Lindsey and Bednarek hungry and Coleman claiming to want the double too.
Coleman and Kerley talking about doubling a bit of a waste of time. Well they could try, but they will make no headway against the big three?
Exactly as predicted from me since years, Kenya is done.
Great to see that the decline continues.
Not impressed with the 1500m.
Jakob and the Brits will hardly be losing any sleep.
I can actually see Asbel Kiprop having a shot at making the team.
Agree.
Giles on 5, Nordas on 6, Almgren on 10 and Farken on 12 is much more impressive than 3 f&%§ng Kenyans on 1, 2 and 3. Yes, Kip and also your friend potato T. will likely be in Paris.
They hate everything that hurt their establishment. Mohamed Salah was close to the FIFA player of the year in (2018-2020) more than anything else (Geoges Weah didn't even win EU Champions league title), but they "played" so that thing don't happen.
