Am I right to be uncomfortable about the nickname my daughter has decided to go by?

Based on what I'm reading, I am starting to thinking the majority of posters here are teenagers or nerds with limited social awareness.

Let's play out a social scenario.

Boy: Mom I would you to meet my new girlfriend, Balls.

Mom: Hi Balls, I am glad I finally got to meet you and am happy you came over for dinner.

Balls: Thank you for inviting me, you have a very nice house.

Mom: Tell me balls a little bit about yourself, do you do sports.

Balls: well I run track and when I don't run I mostly hang and watch videos.

Mom: Do you have a big family, any siblings.

Balls : No siblings, both my parents work. My mom works in the entertainment field and my dad has a private business and does some security associated with it.

Boy: Mom leave Balls alone and stop probing Balls for information.

Balls: That's OK, many people are curious about the name Balls.

Boy: Lets just eat Balls is likely hungry.

Mom: Well Balls let me just say you are lovely and I am glad my son has you! He seems very happy with his Balls.

I hope that she goes undefeated during the track season so her team can hold up a sign at state saying, "You Can't Beat our Balls!".

Of course that's like any other behavior or event that makes us feel personally....sensitive or even angry: fine to feel your feelings, but another thing to act on them.

Stating your feeling is fine, too, within reasonable limits. A lot depends on the style and quality of your reaction, physically and verbally.

Personally, I would inwardly cringe a little at first at the sort of double meaning, but would take the high road and probably just chuckle a little and ask whether she or he is clear on the possible misuse and long term effects of a nickname!

Then go along with it with a casual bemused tone.

You can create the tone in your response and attitude.

It could be an endearment, when played well.
