You do know that the kick is not only dependent on the distance covered but also on the pace right?

Running sub 4 mile pace for 1100m is way more detrimental to a kick than running 4:25 pace, even if they have been running for longer.

That is the reason why there are no kicks in the 800m, it comes down to who slows down the least.

Engels does not deserve to go, but sure he can cry all he wants and have Nike pull some strings. If Engels goes over Hocker then USA running is a joke.

The use of standards and world ranking to decide a team is only more proof that the olympics has become a doped up dog and pony show for Nike. If USATF has any integrity they will not deviate from the top 3 that earned their spot they way it should be earned.

Nike doesn't pull strings for Nike runners to beat out other Nike runners or Nike NCAA teams' runners. And they certainly won't pull strings to lock out Cole Hocker, who they are madly trying to sign to a long-term deal. He is among their top prospects, obviously. Engels, unfortunately, is on their list of athletes who will get pay cuts next year if they don't light the Diamond League on fire this fall.

standards have been and are there because without any standards there would be 3 athletes each of 200+ countries in every single event and it has nothing to with Nike. The job of IOC is to keep the amount of athletes reasonable.
